Trainers or no trainers?
They are black after all. Comfortable. Look like boots or Astros.
Provide unrivalled comfort on dry, hard pitches. Gentle on hips, knees and ankles. Nothing in the LOTG that says otherwise.
My footwear for the new season until it starts to rain 🌧️.
Wishing Dave Fisher all the best at this year’s Berkshire Football Awards.
Dave is up for the ‘referee of the season’ award. Good luck to Ethan Stacey too.

Celebrated my 18th wedding anniversary today.
My wife is a very understanding person.
I refereed at Ascot United. Great game too. #wedding#anniversary#Referees#bravery
We are back on this Thursday. Guest speaker ex premiership referee Graham Scott.
Get your questions ready. Bar open too.
See you all then.

Keeping fit is one of the many referees duties we need to stay on top of.
It does not have to be that arduous 😥 enough to get through our games.
⚽️ 15 mins on the tread mill - aerobic x3
⚽️ 10 mins on the climber - strengthening x3

The feeling of really sore muscles after a few games that have pushed you to your limits. Know the feeling.
Today I had another deep tissue massage. Thank you Gilly.

⚽️ Hamstrings

How does football refereeing recover from this? What a mess. Don’t think we have heard the end of this. It will be interested to see what the World Cup can learn from this debacle.
Makes some of my mistakes pale into the insignificance. #refereeing
A huge thank you to Steve Parkinson for coming to our AR meet-up last night.
Steve took us through his training regime, how he considers his positioning and what to consider as part of your pre match analysis. Great session with plenty of key takeaways.

What a beautiful day. Time for some shuttles down at the park pitch.
⚽️ Central shuttles
⚽️ Wide shuttles
⚽️ Central shuttles with transition
⚽️ In the box shuttles
⚽️ Scanning shuttles
I great way to keep ref fit and do in your lunch hour.
Back tomorrow.
Referee positioning. When the ball goes wide on the non AR side, we are expected to go wide too. Get into a great position and have a good angle.
The image highlights the shaded Zone A. We are not expected to stand in Zone A. Track play rather than follow play from behind.
Date for your diary. Thurs 12th March. We will be welcoming Steve Parkinson who is a regular referee in League One and Two.
Steve will be offering insights into his refereeing career and helping us on how we can become better referees.
Finch Sports Centre, RG40 4JU. 7.30pm
A great evening with Simon Parbery. He focused on the importance of team communication.
A key AR takeaway.
⚽️ Fouls are subjective don’t involve yourself if it’s obvious to you and you are not credible.
⚽️ Even if you are 40 metres away you must flag for violent conduct
Bracknell RA is on tonight. We start at 7:30pm. The meeting will be held at Finchampstead Sports Centre, RG40 4JU.
Simon Parbery is our guest speaker. Simon qualified in 2004 and reached Level 4 in 2011. He was promoted to L3 specialist in 2022.

Following on from the last refereeing positioning post. The ABCD rule.
As the ball moves across the pitch, we are expected to move across. From zone B to C. Keep up with play.
📐45 degree angle to the player
⚽️ 20 metre distance from the player/ball
Anything to add?
Was introduced to the ABCD rule recently when it comes to referee positioning.
In the example below, the ball is in one half, the referee in the other. We will assume all players have shifted up.
B is the perfect position. Drift into C when the ball moves. More pics to follow.
Some interesting items on IFAB’s ABM agenda, taking place tomorrow in London. Here is the agenda.
Possible sanctions for taking too long with throw-ins and goal kicks is how I’m reading point 3.
