Importantly, the radicals have been saying the same thing about Israel since at least the early 1970s -- since it became clear that the Arab states would not be able to erase it, and the energy shifted to the newly imagined Palestinian cause (brought to life in no small part by the KGB, even as pan-Arabists and other Arab nationalists were dismissing the idea of a Palestinian people).

The only thing that has really changed since then is the radicals have moved from the periphery to the center. They are no longer radicals. They are influencing the thoughts, votes and messaging of senior Democrats, who, until not long ago, were made of stronger stuff.

Shapiro is doing what many Democratic presidential aspirants believe they must do -- bend the knee to the progressive identitarians convinced that Israel is the cause to end all causes.

Presumably, he's more sensitive to this, because he's Jewish, and he believes (correctly) that so-called progressives don't trust him because every Jew is a Zionist or a latent or potential Zionist, no matter how loudly they decry the "Zionist entity."

What he fails to grasp is that his very carefully calibrated balancing act -- announcing his Jewish identity while betraying the Jewish state -- simply reveals an underlying hollowness, a broken soul, and no one, irrespective of their feelings about Israel, wants a broken soul in the White House. (This is, I suspect, J.D. Vance's No. 1 problem.) We know that our politicians are flawed, that they lie and flatter and cheat, but we also expect them to have a core -- or, at least, we want to believe that, beneath all the layers of mendacity, there is a set of values, something immovable.

No doubt, many of our presidents and other electeds have failed on this count. But that doesn't change voters' expectations.

@Jason do you realize that you are using an anti-somatic trope by blaming a Jew for antisemitism. You can hate BiBi all you want, but it’s tired and lazy to blame him for all of the problems in the world, especially the rise in antisemitism. There was a rise in antisemitism before him, and there will be after him. People hated Israel from It’s very existence. Then people blamed the “occupation” then “the settlements” then the blockade on Gaza which by the way Egypt also has in place. And now people are blaming Netanyahu. Any Israel, Israeli Prime Minister would be acting exactly the same but they would be less effective. It’s a cop out to blame it all on Netanyahu and it’s especially when it comes from American Jews, like Shapiro.
I’m not here to defend all of Netanyahu’s policies but I’m just calling it out as ridiculous to blame the rise on antisemitism on him. What about Al Jazeera fanning the flames? Or Qatar funding our education system, and buying politicians. What about the fact that the far left are invoking Marxist ideologies? What about the fact that this actually started since the 1960s in America when Russia and China funded the PLO. The one thing about antisemitism is that it is a shape shifting form of patriot Lamm, the Jew for being weak, then blame the Jew for being strong and successful. I expect more from you, Jason. Call balls and strikes. Don’t go to the lowest common denominator.

Last night, Beverly Hills Councilmember and three-time former Mayor @JohnMirisch who also serves as ICAN's Chief Policy Officer, read ICAN's statement from the dais condemning Governor Newsom for calling Israel an "apartheid state."

This is the second time in one week the Governor has platformed narratives advanced by America's enemies. Last Monday he amplified unverified Iranian regime claims. Now he's deploying an antisemitic slur against America's closest ally.

California was once a national leader in holding Iran accountable, becoming the first state to ban Iran-linked companies from government contracts. Now its governor is lending credibility to the regime's talking points.

The Israeli-American community, a quarter million strong in Los Angeles alone, will not forget this.
