A tax expert explained that there is a Legal Wing in the FBR headed by a Grade-21 member but it appears that apart from mindset, the workload is too much due to the multiplicity of litigation that court orders are not implemented until court calls for personal attendance of FBR officials.

Pakistan’s Active Taxpayers List (ATL) has reached a historic milestone, with a record high of 4.78 million taxpayers for the tax year 2022.
The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) released the updated ATL on Monday, which includes the names of individuals and businesses that filed their income tax returns for tax year 2022 by October 1, 2023.

For the first quarter of current financial year, FBR has collected Rs. 2,041 billion (2022: 1644 billion) against the assigned target of Rs. 1,978 billion thus exceeding the target by Rs. 63 billion.

In view of the demand of trade bodies and various tax bar associations, it has been decided that the date of filing of income tax return for Tax Year 2023 is extended to *31st October, 2023*. However, no further extension for filing of said return shall be granted.
