@AlexHodges @weissschwarz_en They don't even have to include every single IP on launch. Just a select few to start with and more added overtime. Similar to how they did their first Weiss PSP game. Plus the fact that anime is now mainstream, it's definitely going to gain some traction

2024 Weiss Rant:

Oshi & Frieren coming to Weiss Schwarz English was at the top of my wishlist in 2024 but my biggest fear about 2023s historically stacked set release list (Chainsaw Man, Avatar, Spy Family etc.) is how glacially slow this year feels in comparison.

This isn’t to say less releases aren’t preferable. The release schedules of 2021-2023 were nightmarish as a fan and even for shops I know that have trouble moving each set which comes in. Can’t be easy to properly market 20+ sealed products a year especially when Bushi famously gives vendors so little to work with.

Here’s a bullet point summary of my painpoints with Weiss in 2024:

• no “hype” set

Oshi & Frieren speak to me as a weeb but not in the same way an SAO 10th, Chainsaw Man, SpyXFamily spoke to vanilla consumers. 2024 almost feels like it’s missing the “hype set”. Maybe not exactly this anime but we needed a “Kaiju No. 8” level drop if this makes sense.

As Bandai continues to bulldoze other games with One Piece- something you hear echoed is “the original artwork in OP TCG is amazing”.

Screenshot art is becoming more of a consumer pain point. People want something unique to collect. Now it isn’t to say existing promo art can’t be reused effectively.

Ephemeral Existence, Mai is one of my fave cards because it’s the official poster for the show. That said Build:Divide getting the same art (albeit on a much fuglier card) illustrates the deeper issue.

• Weiss Schwarz is a game .exe

I walk into big card shops weekly who carry Weiss, Shadowverse and Cardfight.

Despite Weiss being (at one point) the top selling Bushi card game- none of these stores realize Weiss Schwarz is a fun game with tons of players. Not only that there’s almost always Shadowverse, or Cardfight marketing materials somewhere in the shop supplied by Bushiroad. Where’s Shiyoko? Where’s the incentive structure or marketing initiative to activate more LGS into Weiss Schwarz tourney stores?

Ask yourself-

When’s the last time Weiss Schwarz posted a single game-related piece of media to their social media pages that wasn’t a tournament result or a ban list? No video of two human beings playing Weiss ever? No human narrated breakdowns of the powerful things you can do with Chainsaw Man’s “easy revenge” card in 2023? Why aren’t they talking about the game pieces.

I don’t know how to play Magic The Gathering, and will still watch Magic The Gathering game content because it’s fun to watch. If a random internet denizen who likes anime sees Rimuru battling Yor Forger- that could be something that stops them in their tracks. This is something Weiss should be talking about and presenting weekly.

I don’t want a lecture in the comments on marketing budgets- I manage them for a living for companies bigger and smaller than Bushiroad.

TLDR; It is criminal how underrepresented this amazing game is by the very organization who made it for us, and I do not blame the Weiss North America team as they’re likely just following orders.

Anyway… I’ll leave it at that.
