Ad valorem property taxes arbitrarily explode simply because the real estate market gets hot. Your itemized list of assessments (solid waste, stormwater, fire rescue) cannot legally do that.

Your cynical math actually exposes why this legislation is a massive win for taxpayers. Even in your hypothetical scenario, a homeowner's bill drops from $4,000 to $2,100. That's a 47% reduction in their annual cost of living.

The principled question to ask : Is funding discretionary government expansion worth using the threat of foreclosure and homelessness against our own neighbors to secure it?

We do, but we aren't affected for two reasons:

1. No Lace releases using the affected versions of the affected packages
2. This has been patched in updated versions, which we will use if we need to update

Fortunately, this was caught and addressed pretty quickly. The alarming part is how it was found.
