It’s actually super funny.

Because there is no such thing as elimination of genes from the gene pool, as genes can come and go as they please. Just as a seeing creature who moves into a cave for generations can lose sight and gain glow, once that species leaves the cave they can regain sight and lose the glow. DNA contains the code for every possible combination of genes, regardless if they are active in a living creature or not.
