🚨 Big changes for Texas high school sports this fall.

If your child plays football, soccer—or even marches in band—schools now have to follow a new statewide heat safety law.

Instead of just looking at the heat index, every UIL school must now monitor something called the Wet Bulb Globe Temperature, which measures not only the temperature, but also humidity, sunlight, and wind to determine how dangerous the heat really is.

If conditions become too dangerous, schools are required to move athletes indoors or modify practices. They also have to provide unlimited water breaks, monitor conditions throughout practice, and have rapid cooling equipment available during extreme heat.

Some districts, including Bryan ISD and College Station ISD, have already been using these protocols for the past two years. But now, every UIL school in Texas has to comply.
