In this report, the SRT documented 1031 cases directly affecting 1043 LGBTQ+ persons,
including organisations. The 1043 persons repeat multiple human rights violations and
abuses embedded in them. The report highlights the nature and number of cases, persons
involved, the nature and number of human rights violations as well as leading perpetrators.
The nature of rights abuses include freedom from torture, inhuman and degrading treatment,
rights to property, right to liberty among others. In the eyes of one observer, the passing of
the AHA and the subsequent court decision acted as a licence for some individuals to attack
and violate the rights of LGBTQ+ persons. Known and/or perceived LGBTQ+ persons were
arrested, tortured, beaten, exposed, including evictions and banishments, blackmail, loss of
employment, and health service disruptions. This was sustained by frequent fake and false
news shared on different platforms and a sustained campaign to paint LGBTQ+ persons as
persons who are not only acting against African and religious morals but also as persons but
also as persons who are out there to recruit children into homosexuality, destroy society and
cause some form of apocalypse in Uganda.
hypocrisy & inaction is not a foreign policy of the european union 🇪🇺. we are tired of statements that yeild nothing!
we want actions now to expedite the nullification of the draconian anti-homosexuality law in uganda.
wake up @euintheus@euparliament@eucouncil@vonderleyen
On April 3, 2024, Uganda's Constitutional Court upheld the Anti-Homosexuality Act. @nickopiyo, one of the lawyers on the case joins @_MariaBurnett and @AAgather to discuss the court rulings.

antony blinken [@secblinken], u.s. secretary of state: the anti-homosexuality act 2023 poses grave threats to the ugandans, especially lgbtqi+ persons & allies, undermines public health, clamps down on civic space, damages uganda’s global reputation & harms efforts to increase foreign investment.

Shocking and deeply disappointing: The Ugandan court dismisses the petition to repeal the Anti-Homosexuality Act of 2023. Our unwavering support goes out to the LGBTI+ community in Uganda, as their fundamental rights to freedom, safety, and equality continue to be unjustly denied. #RepealAHA #AHA2023
Uganda’s constitutional court upheld an anti-gay law that allows the death penalty for “aggravated homosexuality.” The ruling is expected to be appealed to the country's Supreme Court.
@ErinNBCNews has the story.
this deplorable ruling upholds Anti-Homosexuality Act--w/exception of hypocritical partial nullification of 3 clauses designed to distract @WorldBank. Don't be fooled. Court is claiming to enforce right to health of LGBTQ+ people while embracing discrimination #RepealAHA23
@WorldBank Court showed this illogic in their own ruling today! They claimed higher #HIV rates among gay & trans people justify criminalization. But de-criminalization flattens these differences. It's the violation of human rights itself that drives new infections #RepealAHA23@UNAIDS_UG
@WorldBank@UNAIDS_UG Noteworthy: #Uganda's Constitutional Court referring to Dobbs v. Jackson decision striking down right to abortion in U.S., as supportive of criminalization of #LGBTQ+ communities, is abhorrent.
This is exactly the #Project2025 handbook of U.S. white, Christian extremist groups.
12. So the govt has used the Constitutional Court to eat their proverbial cake and also keep it. This decision should not hoodwink anyone to think that anything is going to change. What was illegal remains illegal.
11. Promotion of homosexuality was clearly a difficult one. Nullifying it would imply that the whole reason for this law - the actual political one-muzzling civil society would be lost. So they couldn’t budge on this and so they threw the little crumbs to make the money flow.
