The BRCA-DIRECT study aimed to provide an easy way for patients with #BreastCancer to access #GeneticTesting within @NHSEngland. Our final participant has now completed the study ! A total of 1140 women have been offered genetic testing through @BrcaDirect . #BRCA1#BRCA2
Identifying families who carry a #BRCA can benefit all family members, not just women.
A #BRCA2 gene fault in men is associated with increased risk of prostate, pancreatic, and male #BreastCancer.

5 days until the Festival of Genomics!
Our research genetic counsellor Grace will be presenting the @BrcaDirect study on Wednesday 25th January, come and find out more about our work in making #GeneticTesting more available on the NHS!

It's the final countdown! Just 5 days until the UK's largest Genomics event - The Festival of #Genomics & Biodata - kicks off in London π
Come and see what we have planned for the long-awaited reunion of the Genomics and #Biodata community: https://t.co/OteBbKvaMI

At @BRCADIRECT participants submitted a sample for #GeneticTesting by simply providing a saliva sample at home and posting it to our lab. Our diagnostic laboratory then analysed the sample for gene faults in #BRCA1, #BRCA2, and #PALB2
Having a BRCA mutation, or being a βBRCA carrierβ, increases your risk of developing certain types of cancer. This is true for both men & women. For more information visit https://t.co/PaVKDf3SZt #brca#brcaexplained#brcacarrier#knowyourrisk
@BrcaDirect offers an alternative pathway for women with #breastcancer to access #BRCAtesting, with steps completed at home, postal saliva sampling, standardised digital information-giving, and a telephone hotline. Find out more:

The final few participants are now making their way through the @BrcaDirect pathway. Recruitment to the @BrcaDirect study was completed in August 2022, giving 1140 women with #breastcancer the opportunity to access #genetictesting.
Many people worry about whether family members are at risk following a diagnosis of #breastcancer but less than 1 in 5 people diagnosed are currently eligible for #NHS#genetictesting. @BrcaDirect is aiming to increase access to genetic testing #BRCA1#BRCA2
True or False?: "Only women can carry BRCA gene faults..."
False! Men can also carry #BRCA gene faults, associated with increased risk of prostate, pancreatic, and male #breastcancer. Identifying families with gene faults can benefit all family members.
Learnings from @BrcaDirect will be helping to inform an @NHSEngland project where a predominately paper-based pathway will enable those of Jewish ancestry to access #genetictesting of the #BRCA1 and #BRCA2 genes from early 2023
We are delighted to share that NHS England has appointed Jnetics, in partnership with @ChaiCancerCare, to promote a new programme of genetic testing to identify individuals with a BRCA gene fault. Click on the link to read the full article.

What role can digital technologies play in early detection and prevention of #cancer? @BrcaDirect is piloting a digital pathway for rapid, NHS integrated #GeneticTesting in women with #BreastCancer, to identify risk of developing future cancers and at-risk family members.
Did you know that gene faults in #PALB2 increase the risk of #breastcancer and #ovariancancer ? Follow the link below to catch up on the discussion that recently took place on @BBCBreakfast , raising the awareness of #PALB2
