I doubt that the old rich decision makers of the late 1970s decided to gift today’s boomer with this wealth. The narrative that boomers are hogging all the wealth ignores the simple fact that boomers have had a lifetime to accumulate wealth. As always happens, later generations will be claiming that wealth as time rolls on.

The higher interest rates in the early 1980s was to combat the high inflation from the 1970s. Those high rates drove home prices down but also caused a recession. Eventually, interest rates could be lowered.
