Equity in education is not about politics. It is about giving all students what they need to learn, when they need it, and how they need it. Knowing our students requires knowing their gifts and their needs.
Best quote from the Leadership in Higher Ed Conference in Baltimore is by Rick Hansen, "You're not being "weak" "needy" "hysterical" or a "whiner" if you call people on their bad behavior. People who value harmony over truth often end up having neither." Grateful for this team!
A reminder that the education goal is not just to survive COVID-19 but to end up with something significantly "better" than was the case in 2019. Our team @NewPedagogies is working on this (as usual with schools). 'Ramp up the positive' is our theme for the coming year and beyond
These lucky 4th graders are celebrating their teacher, Sara Medalen, who is the 2020 ND Teacher of the Year. So many remarkable and dedicated people in our state are collaborating to elevate the teaching profession and support all of our students. Now that, is with celebrating.
My guy Grantley had a big birthday on Thursday! I got to visit him and drop off some gifts from Choice Bank. Also a big thank you to @NDSUmbb for helping me get him an autographed ball from the guys. One of the toughest 7 year olds I’ve ever met and I know he will keep fighting!
Differentiated instruction does not require a different lesson plan for each student. Simply providing choice, when possible, can increase engagement and motivate learners of all ages to take ownership in their learning. Heather Wolpert-Gawron shows us how simple it can be.
It's not the lesson plan that makes a lesson successful...it's the lesson plan with intuition, ability to adjust on the fly, the delivery, and the relationships with the students. #teachergoals
Bismarck High School’s AVID seniors left some important reminders in my heart today.

2. Progress is made outside of our comfort zone.
3. Everything we ever wanted is on the other side of fear.
