I met this Asian-looking waiter at a restaurant in Berlin. When he realised I couldn’t speak German he asked where I come from. I told him: Uganda. He seemed unmoved, so I asked him if he knew Uganda. He said: “Of course, you even just gave New York a mayor”. I smiled, for it was not about Amin stories this time. The other uplifting moment was when a German conference participant said he hadn’t been to Uganda but knows it for being a global good example on hosting refugees. Quite elevating! Then he asked: “who became president after Museveni?” I changed the topic 😊
