In the plenary abstracts session, Uwe Platzbecker @UwePlatzbecker @UniLeipzig presents the first results from the open-label randomized phase III APOLLO trial of ATO with ATRA and Ida vs standard ATRA plus chemotherapy regimen in 131 patients with ND HR #APL.
▪️ Trial met its primary endpoint: 5-year EFS=87% vs 55% (p=0.0034); 2-yr EFS=88% vs 70% (p=0.02), for ATO-ATRA vs ATRA-chemotherapy
▪️ Reduced frequency of hematologic adverse events observed
▪️ Other toxicities: QTc prolongation grade 3-4=4.4% vs 0; hepatic toxicity=11.8% vs 14.3; differentiation syndrome=1.5% vs 4.8%
▪️ Reduced CIR seen with ATO-ATRA: 1.6% vs 14.0% (p=0.011)
He concludes that ATO plus ATRA has the potential to become new standard of care in HR-APL
