Businesses need to jump into nature reporting - yes, it's complex, but there are simple approaches and datasets available so there's no excuse (& the planet can't wait) @Biodivcouncil@ICON_Science @RMIT_CUR @BrenWintle@EconOConnor

Most Aussies believe once an animal is listed as threatened with extinction everything possible will be done to protect it.
Thats simply not the case and the nation has scored an F in 3 key categories on the @WWF_Australia scorecard.

Threatened Species populations have been declining at 4% per year for the last 20 years. We can turn things around. It will take investment, political spine and the support of the community. Tell your members of parliament that you want action on this - it helps stiffen their spines.
To start with we need:
🌿1% of the federal budget allocated to on-ground nature care
🐠 National Environmental Standards enforced by a strong independent regulator.
🦜 You can also take steps at home to help nature. Here are 11 easy actions to start with.

NSW biodiversity conservation laws are getting an overhaul. New commitments by @PennySharpemlc@ChrisMinnsMP address many major issues enabling ongoing nature loss in NSW, such as the biodiversity offsets scheme - but there are still significant gaps, such as inadequate action to address land clearing.

Desperate community members are sending me pics and measurements of big old eucalypts about to be removed along the Strzelecki Hwy at Delburn. A tragic situation that epitomises the shambolic condition of public administration in this State..
Disappointing on so many levels. There is still a massive chasm between what is needed to deliver the commitments made by the @AlboMP Government to end extinctions and be nature-positive and the peanuts in the budget. 🥜🥜🥜
Fire breaks can be important, but we do not need to clear habitat for endangered species in the process. These are some of the last old growth trees left after logging and fires - we need to protect them @Biodivcouncil
Come do a PhD in business biodiversity footprinting at the Melbourne Biodiversity Institute! Will be a super fun, high impact project working with Melbourne Business School and School of Economics. Looking for someone to start ASAP! https://t.co/zbHXEYqycL
James Trezise @Biodivcouncil describes “Nature positive’ at @KyleaTink forum on the Future of Our Environment pleading for national leadership on environmental law reforms
The offshore oil and gas industry should not be exempt from complying with national environmental law, that's why we are calling for the scrapping of an amendment which would carve out the offshore oil and gas industry from needing to comply with the EPBC Act.

So fabulous to have several of our Biodiversity Councillors talking about nature at WOMAD! If you were lucky enough to see @sbekessy, @martine_maron or @BrenWintle tell us your highlight 😀 💡
@martine_maron from the @Biodivcouncil and @UQ_CBCS explains ‘Nature positive” @WOMADelaide and the risks of greenwashing and ‘easy’ solutions (offsets) 🤢- articulate and clear as always!
@WOMADelaide conversation on nature in cities - “if you’re worried about flashers in the shrubbery, plant prickly acacia, they’ll only flash in there once..” @Biodivcouncil
Labor & the Coalition are on a unity ticket in arguing against having climate change in our national environmental laws 😔
In 2005 the now PM, Anthony Albanese, introduced his own Bill to add a climate trigger.
20 years later Labor say we don't need one 😳🤦🏼♂️
Allowing duck hunting to continue in Victoria is shameful and part of a disturbing trend by. Great analysis by @JackHPascoe @Biodivcouncil of why we must demand better care of nature by @VicGovAu
