@MostlyMonkey @endfederalgov @russellhbrooks This is the best data I've seen on the subject and unfortunately it's over 20 years old. Zagorsky 2007 (data is 2004)
@NoSleeNo@foolmealex I've done it before.
I had got invited to go drinking with some coworkers after work. Ended up hitting it off with a woman I worked with.
This was over 10 years ago, before online dating was totally ubiquitous. I know several people who slept with coworkers. It wasn't abnormal.
@Admiral_Ragnar@Aella_Girl@InLuvWScience Stigmas about sex are so deeply ingrained that it's hard to imagine a society where they didn't exist. It would be really bizarre relative to our norms.
@Admiral_Ragnar@Aella_Girl@InLuvWScience Sure. If we lived in a society where there was no stigma about sex, there would still be people who didn't have sex w/ strangers.
Depending on how sex was viewed, we might see them as odd (like people who don't shake hands today) or just a little standoffish.
@burrrgers@h0987136@wil_da_beast630 What scenario are you imagining where you're in the woods and encountering a man where it's better to encounter a bear?
@burrrgers@wil_da_beast630 What % of men will attack a stranger on sight with no provocation? That's gotta be far below 1%.
A guy wandering in the woods is most likely just hiking or looking for deer signs or something. The odds of him attacking have to be way less than 1 in a million.
@PMPwastaken@Aella_Girl@InLuvWScience Yes exactly. In such a world, you can probably download an app and fuck a random decent looking college sophomore for like $30-$50. It's probably more on weekends. It's still probably very expensive to book a famous person.
Aella's job is probably about the same.
@brapppp_@Aella_Girl@InLuvWScience You're missing the point. I'm describing a hypothetical where there is no social stigma or shame. In such a world, most people view sex as just a biological act without any romantic/emotional/spiritual implications.
We don't live in such a world.
@brapppp_@Aella_Girl@InLuvWScience In that hypothetical, it's just a normal job that sometimes unpleasant if you have a really nasty client. Nice firms require clients to meet a certain BMI or be reasonably clean and unscented.
@brapppp_@Aella_Girl@InLuvWScience People don't want to do a lot of things they do for money.
Prostitutes today have sex with ugly people.
Low income earns scrub toilets, wipe people's asses, dig outside in the middle of summer, crawl inside nasty industrial equipment, scrape away mold, etc.
@Admiral_Ragnar@Aella_Girl@InLuvWScience You're describing the stigma and shame. I'm describing a hypothetical where those things don't exist. There may still be people uncomfortable having sex w/ strangers in such a world, just like there are people today who don't want to drive for Uber or do manual labor.
@TheSurvivalMom@UsingLyft We can't take in 6000-18000 people from a very similar culture with shared roots, but we can take in infinity total foreigners with nothing but contempt for Anglo culture.
@MagnusFratus@soumitrashukla9 Also I've never seen any of them have regard for neatness or clarity. Idk what's up with that.
They treat me like I'm an idiot for spending a little extra time drawing diagrams neatly and writing explanations in documents, even though it makes things so much easier later on.
@MagnusFratus@soumitrashukla9 Yeah. I don't hate them individually. Their are just irreconcilable cultural differences. In small quantities, they have to abandon their old cultural norms and it's fine, but in large numbers, you start having Indian business practices becoming normalized.
There are too many
@MagnusFratus@soumitrashukla9 Yeah. I didn't really have an opinion on H1B or Indians in general until a few years ago when I started working with them frequently. I'd had a few unpleasant interactions but after working with many, it's like "oh. They're all like that... and we keep bringing in more... fuck"
@MagnusFratus@soumitrashukla9 Mostly people don't express their views on immigrants in person because it would cause massive HR issues.
X is where honest opinions come out.
The typical American that works at a company where half the team is Indian is probably extremely polite to them everyday but hates them
@Aella_Girl@InLuvWScience If it weren't for the stigma and shame, it would be the equivalent of delivering for Door Dash or working as a retail clerk and pay comparable to that.
I'm sure high end escorts would still exist, but it would be a very different market.
@Kamots_A@Gingerblast Eh. Idk. That would give employers an incentive to encourage employees to do their best to get out of jury duty and really screw over smaller companies with fewer employees.
Jury duty should pay more though. It's minimum wage in Texas.
