A near-endemic species here in Colombia. These Rufous-browed Conebills are impressive hunters, skillfully plucking insects and arachnids as they probe the vegetation.

This image captures what an Eastern Colorado drive feels like to me. Wide open, quiet, and full of small mysteries. It’s my favorite part of the state. Something startled a driver near this lone tree, possibly an animal that had been using it as the only shelter for miles.
