On this day, October 16, 1968, the final studio album by the Jimi Hendrix Experience, “Electric Ladyland” was released. The record was the band’s most commercially successful release and went to number 1 on the Billboard Top Albums chart.
In addition to other standout songs, the album included the iconic live studio jam version of Voodoo Chile which included contributions from Stevie Winwood (Hammond organ) and Jack Casady (bass guitar).

On September 5, 1969 Jimi Hendrix lead Gypsy Sun & Rainbows through a performance for the United Block Association's Benefit Concert on 139th Street in Harlem, New York. The enthusiastic performance included "Fire," "Foxey Lady," "Red House," "Purple Haze," Star Spangled Banner," and a medley featuring "Voodoo Child (Slight Return)" and "Machine Gun."
