@RichardHanania Peterson's vacuity was on evident years ago in his rage at David Benatar in their discussion about anti-natalism. He did the woke thing of denying a thing can be true if it leads to unwanted moral conclusions. Screaming "Nihilism!" is not an argument.

@ejleven Transgender girls are not automatically removed from the male distribution on sex-valent traits at the moment of introspection. We delineate spaces like sports and a few other things because of real and massive sex differences on a few metrics.
@ejleven with a typical misleading headline in his CNN piece today. There is no ban on transgender girls in sports. There is a ban on males competing in female sports. Transgender girls, i.e. boys, can of course compete in sports as the boys they are. https://t.co/aHzijiLdOG
@jonatanpallesen But are marriage and children the cause of that happiness or is it selection bias, that is, people who get married and have kids are already different than people who don't? I am betting on selection bias.
@johnrich Certainly this has been noted, but Presidents don't memorize nuclear codes. They have the Football with them at all times. But MAGA doesn't do retractions of nonsense because its the "truthiness" that matters, much like woke nonsense. https://t.co/GIWGG6MyxF
@BradWilcoxIFS But the prime reason for this is not "evil liberal hippies have brainwashed people into doing things against their self-interest." This is the conservative version of Marxist "false consciousness" and other social constructionist theories of why people aren't "acting right".
@EPoe187 DEI and AA are stupid and wrong, but what they aren't doing is systemically benefitting less meritocratic black people at the expense of more meritocratic white people. They just tinker with areas where the standards are based more on supply/demand than standards being crucial.
@EPoe187 Well of course there is a way Yale could meritocratically get more than 2% of blacks. 1)By being more attractive to blacks than Harvard, Cornell, etc. and 2)Reaching overseas for blacks in a way they don't for other ethnicities. Which is largely all DEI ends up doing.
@aldenejones@JoesdeNatris@Musa_alGharbi False consciousness is a lame explanation for why people aren't acting the way you think they should. Maybe they have self-interest tradeoffs different from yours? Its just as lame an explanation from the left as it is from the right.
@devoncarson@aldenejones@Musa_alGharbi Hmm, the best predictor of abortion belief is simply one's mate style. "How many sex partners have you had" is a much better predictor than anything life or choice valent". Note the carveouts for abortion cases that don't involve adding costs to short term sex.
@aldenejones@Musa_alGharbi For many women, controlling other women's (and incidentally men's) sexual freedom is in their best fundamental interest. Women who want early marriage, kids, and higher earning husbands to underwrite that might be harmed by cost-free sex from other women.
@aldenejones@Musa_alGharbi Restricting abortion access is in lots of women's interests - women who prefer to incentivize long-term mating and limit short term mating to rig cultural incentives around their preferred lifestyles. Gender is no predictor all of abortion belief.
@Musa_alGharbi@rkurzban has a book that goes deeply into this. Biological sex isn't a predictor at all of abortion belief. Your revealed preference for privileging/hamstringing a short term vs long term mate strategy is. In short, your likelihood of needing one is best predictor.
@robkhenderson Maybe @robkhenderson is starting to have a more tragic/realist view of "tradeoffs between mutually compelling but competing interests in a choice environment" rather than a "callous elites are brainwashing people to act against their self-interest" view?
