What is the purpose of the East African Community (EAC) if its core promises—free movement of people, labour, services, and rights of establishment—are tossed aside like trash at the first sign of political discomfort?

If Martha Karua, a senior advocate and stateswoman, is denied entry and deported from Tanzania for simply seeking to exercise her professional rights under a regional treaty Kenya is a signatory to, then we must ask:
Is the EAC a serious integration project or just a diplomatic charade for photo ops?

This is not a small matter. It’s not just about Martha. It’s about every Kenyan lawyer, doctor, engineer, or entrepreneur who believed the promise of regional integration. And it’s about the dignity of Kenya.

President William Ruto must summon the Tanzanian High Commissioner, demand a formal explanation, and—if unsatisfied—expel them. That’s how sovereign nations assert themselves when disrespected.

Samia Suluhu must also be reminded: regional integration cannot be reduced to speeches and summit selfies. Either we uphold the Protocol on the Establishment of the EAC Common Market, or we stop pretending.
