The more you diversify, the safer you are. The less you diversify, the higher the stakes on your bet.
But remember that humans are terrible predictors of the future. Have more than one point of failure. If one fails, you still have others.
If you have just one point of failure, the system depends on that one point.
One client
One friend
One stock
One source of income
One phone charger, even
If this point of failure does fail, you have to scramble, or else the system will fall apart.
I was reminded of this by a friend. You can’t just “think your way through” and expect real changes. This is especially tempting and problematic for intellectuals.
The best way to learn and get better is to DO and learn by example.
You can only learn. You cannot be taught by someone else.
This is a subtle difference but one to keep in mind if you're looking for some perfect book, course, teacher, coach, silver bullet, etc.
It's not about who's teaching but how willing you are to learn and implement.
Oftentimes, people will tell you a good reason but not the real reason. Many people will validate your complaints (until they start complaining about you).
That’s completely useless except to your ego.
You should be brutally honest with yourself too.
The greatest power you can learn is to follow through—with others and with yourself.
It's rare to see someone do what they said they'd do.
It's rare to see someone follow advice they're given.
Even the greatest scientific theories of our time are explanations, not predictions.
You don't know ahead of time what's going to happen, whether you're going to like someone, or where the stock price is going to go.
The only way to find out is to try it. #JustDoIt
