@nyggm@garysavage1 No it was not the point. The point was to stop people dying from Covid. As I said, the vaccine never prevented you getting Covid, it only diminished your symptoms so that you had a far smaller chance of dying from it if you contracted it.
@nyggm@garysavage1 So, what's your point? Science moves on. The message was clear. Getting vaccinated did not prevent Covid, it simply reduced the most dire outcomes.
Gary Savage, I see you've structured your posts so I'm not able to reply anymore. Why? I was never rude or hyperbolic. Sure we often disagreed but it's sad that you post but aren't willing to commit to honest debate. Facts be damned, I guess.
@garysavage1 Gary you need to take a look at the standard of living in those Scandinavian countries. Because of their higher tax rates they have a fundamentally more fair and even society and consequently a higher standard of living than the USA! Better health outcomes, better education, etc.
@garysavage1 Personal anecdotes isn't evidence. 50 years ago a working man could buy a house, but now, in many cities he can't, why? Because wealthy people and corporations buy them to profit. A law could prevent that but the wealthy make the laws. Not Socialism but Capitalism run amok.
@garysavage1 No, those on the wealthier end of the spectrum, where their money could make money got ahead because tax policy favored them, but your average worker has done far worse with stagnant wage growth for 40 years. This explains the loss of your middle class/increased inequality.
@garysavage1 Again, you've misconstrued things. Nothing to do with FAIR. Even Adam Smith knew that some degree of regulatory control over capitalism and capitalists was required or things would run amok. The best societies have always been the most equal.
@garysavage1 When Reagan got elected the top marginal tax rate for the wealthy was 73%, by the time he left it was 28%. There's your US debt and deficit right there!
@garysavage1 OMG. So wrong, I don't even know where to begin. 1. Elon's money sits in shares that he never sells but borrows against so as to pay no taxes. 2. The rich pay all the taxes myth. While it is true they pay some, the don't pay near the share that a working man does as a % of income
@garysavage1 The only reason Bezos makes your life easier is because the government, that's you and me, used our tax dollars to build the base for his business. He didn't invent the internet, we did. It's the same for Bill Gates and Musk. So the public rightly has issues with billionaires.
@garysavage1 I essentially agree with you about the hard work piece, but your left/right divide is misplaced. Trump has increased the US debt more than any single president, ever.
@garysavage1 This isn't a left/right issue. A flat tax is the first correct thing you've said. While technically harder on the poor, a flat tax would prevent the rich from write offs, massively reducing their taxes. That's why it will never happen. ALL politicians are bought and paid for
@garysavage1 Wow, that construction worker you made up must be making millions because the vague left you describe wants to tax the rich appropriately.
@nyggm@garysavage1 I think Gary has missed the mark with climate change. I can't speak to the number of coal plants China built but I can say they are miles ahead of the west with green power production. They are so big they need to use all sources so they embrace green while transitioning
