M7 is playing a dangerous balancing game. Refusing to back MAO for the Speakership risks collapsing the very opposition bloc he carefully neutralized and reorganized. That coalition survives on political reward, not ideology or loyalty - and once denied, it disintegrates.
Supporting MAO, however, comes with a different kind of power. It reframes M7 as a leader so secure that he can govern with former adversaries, not against them. That single move would sanitize dissent, domesticate opposition, and make any future transition predictable, controlled, and elite-managed.
The current Speaker is not powerless in this drama. I have some options that can lead to her stay against all odds but also, there are clean exit strategies where she leaves as a winner, protects her stature, and still keeps MAO satisfied. The problem is not the absence of options - it is the willingness to accept political reality if am to speak it to her.
As for Tayebwa, any ambitions he has must wait. One more kisanja as Deputy is not a demotion but an investment. MAO, if he gets the job, is a one-term Speaker at best. Time is already working in Tayebwa’s favor no matter who becomes speaker. Tayebwa just needs to intentionally and strategically stay patient and leave his elevation to M7.
This is not a battle of strength. It is a test of who understands when to move - and when to get out of the way.
Before addressing the second rally in Kamuli District, Maama Janet and I commissioned the DEI Group Advanced Agro-Processing Park and the new starch manufacturing plant in Busambo, Namasagali. I congratulate Mr. Magoola for his innovation and resilience. From his early work in Matuuga on malaria remedies rooted in our ancient knowledge, to the vibrant progress we see today, he continues to make a real contribution to Uganda’s wealth creation journey.
I also thank the partners, including our friends from the United States, who are supporting these efforts.
Finally, I congratulate the People’s Republic of China for their long-standing cooperation with Africa since 1949. Together, we have today flagged off the first container of Ugandan chili for export to China, another milestone in our march to prosperity.
As a resident of Rukungiri Municipality, I am coming out early to full-heartedly endorse Sam Mugumya.
He is tested. Sam is a fearless defender of human rights and champion of justice and democracy. Sam will be an effective representative of
Rukunguri Mun.
