BrightWillow

Making Bright Willow, a pixel art game about a witch on the edge of a village where the protective trees are dying. Solo dev. Posting my art progress from day 1

Tree number three, drawn in real time. Still figuring out my style, one tree at a time. #pixelart

Three takes on the same tree while I figure out my style. The first two were before I looked at other artists' work, the third is a new experiment. Learning isn't a straight line. #pixelart

Week 1 of learning pixel art in public. One tree, one porch and a lot of mistakes. I'm making a cozy witch game one small piece at a time, and this week I also studied a pile of other artists' work, so next week's tree should look very different. Follow along! #pixelart

Following Hanapix's character worksheets this week (hanapix_ on Instagram). The first three are the exercises, and the last one is my own witch using her techniques. Big difference from my first witches. Still learning! #pixelart

The witch's porch, my first environment piece. What would you put on it? #pixelart

My first building, from sketch to pixels. Krita sketches, then pixel art in Aseprite. Far from perfect but a learning step. #pixelart

Newest witch, still learning. #pixelart

Session 1 vs Session 3 of learning pixel art from scratch. I'm making a cozy witch game. In session 3 I tried a more realistic witch, plus a fire pit and cauldron for props. New palette next time. What should I draw next? #pixelart

Day 1 vs Day 2 of learning pixel art. I'm making a cozy/creepy witch game, Bright Willow, where the mist hides dangers and the village's bright tree is failing. I've never made pixel art before this week, so I'm sharing the whole journey. What should I draw next? #pixelart
