Thank you to everyone who has responded so lovingly to my post last night commemorating the 6th anniversary of @BrinaM's passing. It wasn't meant as an invitation to say kind words about her but it was taken as such & I'm warmed by all the sentiments & photos shared. #Brina
Six years ago tonight (early hours 21.2.18), we lost @BrinaM. Snatched away so suddenly, so totally unexpectedly, so young. The world is a (far) less tolerant place without her.
@smileonice@NyrsLeri@realaled@estevensmusic@jennbostic plus Caro & many others.
Clearing out pretty much the last of #Brina's house and found this in the cupboard under the stairs. Love that she makes me laugh from beyond the grave! #likeadodo
The #LondonMarathon was an event which Mutti and #Brina used to watch together, snuggled into one armchair. It was always a thing in our household. "Rosa Mota, motoring along" (in Brendan Foster's accent). Brina finally ran it herself in 2011, 10 years after Mutti's death.
The toy she & I are holding was called Poppoids. As an adult, I was trying to remember their name & asked her. I was trying "Poppy?...Doddy...Pod?...Dodd?...Poddy?..." etc, finally concluding with "Poddy Doddoids!" & she was nearly wetting herself laughing! Priceless! #Brina
A year ago tonight, at 7.45pm, #Brina rang me as I was getting ready to go to football. Said she felt awful and had a headache she couldn't shift. Asked me to take her to a walk-in. The rest is history.
Excellent turnout for #Brina's stonesetting this afternoon. The weather was beautiful & it was lovely to see so many friends & family, many coming the length of the country. Video was taken & will be uploaded somewhere at some point. Here's the eulogy I gave, & the stone itself.
#Brina's stonesetting (tombstone consecration & unveiling) will be held on Sunday 17 February at 2.00pm. The ceremony is similar to the funeral, with brief prayers, a speech from me and then a visit to the graveside. All welcome. Please DM me (@madbins) for details if necessary.
It might be 1.30am but the time has come. #Brina and I watched Box of Delights together every year, around the time the schools break up. It was a thing just she and I shared and it was very dear to us both. @BoxOfDelights84
If you're watching the #LondonMarathon this morning, think of @BrinaM. It was a big thing in our household & she watched it with Mum every year. Then she ran it herself in 2011. She'd've been glued to it today, tweeting regularly. Moments like this, it's hard without her. #Brina
I'm indescribably proud to announce that both #Brina's kidneys have been successfully transplanted into other patients: a lady in her 50s who had been on the waiting list 12 yrs and another in her 40s who had been waiting 3 yrs. We are thrilled!! @NHSBT
Today (Thurs), #Brina should have turned 31. Instead, we started the process of clearing her house. It's all very strange and surreal. And wrong.
Here she is aged just 16 hrs & 40 mins. We kept that sign which was stuck to her cot; I saw it today.
It is with great sorrow that I must inform all who do not already know that Brina died on 22 February, having contracted bacterial meningitis. We have recently gained access to her social media accounts and will read notifications in due course.
Signed: @madbins (Brina's brother)
