I don’t believe anyone in Britain who claims not to be the slightest bit weirded out by this endless grey, wet weather 🌧️. I learnt at school in the 1990s that in a global greenhouse situation, more carbon dioxide leads to a warmer atmosphere which leads to more moisture in the air which leads to more cloud and rain, especially for us here in the north-east Atlantic. Even the conspiracy theorists are now blaming the weird weather on ‘chemtrails’ and a programme of geoengineering perpetrated by a secretive global cabal. This one time, they are almost right. We *are* geoengineering the climate on a massive scale, except it’s happening in plain sight and scientists have been monitoring it and issuing warnings of the looming consequences for decades. The secret cabal they fear is in fact comprised of a handful of giant polluters and their lobbyists who have been spending fortunes obfuscating the issue and doing all they can to stall action.

@GregorMacdonald @pretentiouswhat @KobeltMarco I'm starting to think - both through your own work and that of others - is that electricity emissions may plateau or have a shallow decline due to rapid demand growth. Part of the reason is large-scale electrification such as rapid EV adoption (therefore oil demand drops).

Does China's coal peak mean a global coal peak?

It's looking very likely now that 2023 will end up being declared the year of peak coal in China. We won't know until we see 2024 decline, of course (and 2025, and every year thereafter).

But what about the globe?

@hazr198 Is it Sadiq Khan, or is it demand? I've just got in after a "night out" in a village of 4000 that sustains 5 pubs/clubs, along with a couple of restaurants, despite having a population. Clearly sufficient demand here to justify opening beyond 11PM/midnight in London.

@colinelmustard Referencing forced labour/human rights in the solar supply chain is just a NIMBY response. I don't see any Conservative MPs suggesting any other products should be banned as there is a potential risk of human rights abuses within the supply chains.

@TomH_Analyst Through industry events, I've heard informal chat of some intrepid developers building up in-house resource (staff etc) and greenfield pipeline over the last few months/years to take advantage of the expected policy change. Apparently some have even done some clandestine surveys.

@TomH_Analyst @dan_grey @Dave_Waggy Hence why Bute Energy have submitted a planning application for 60+ miles of overhead line just to support a moderately sized wind farm proposal. Tan8 areas are really not well located if there is no grid. There is grid in S-Wales, but sites are very constrained in other ways.

@Mangan87 @AyoCaesar The challenge with that is whether it will suit tactically. Greens are very strong in Bristol, but less so in BANES and South Glos. Will the electorate vote in Labour as a greater chance of beating the Conservatives (or Reform?)?

@hoxtonrich @Ed_Miliband Bristol Central is getting the publicity as it's flipped to the Green but Bristol North-East, Bristol North-West, Bristol East and Bristol South all saw massive increases in Green support and in all cases the Green Party are now number second placed to Labour.
