Was the Protestant Reformer John Calvin convicted of the crime of sodomy in 1527?

The French city of Noyon, John Calvin's birth city, had on public record a criminal conviction against “Jean Calvin” for the crime of sodomy in 1527. The historical Reformer Jean Calvin would have been about 18 years old in 1527.

Around this time, Calvin’s family removed him from studying for the Catholic priesthood and transferred him to begin studying law. Around 1530, Calvin adopted Lutheran beliefs and became a theological Protestant.

Calvinists today deny that their “Jean Calvin” was convicted of sodomy, but the fact was attested to by citizens of Noyon.

Contemporary Calvinists acknowledge the criminal record, but claim that the “Jean Calvin” convicted of sodomy in Noyon (Calvin’s home town) was actually another “Jean Calvin” living in the same town at the same time in 1527.

Later in life Jean Calvin was reluctant to marry but was coerced into marriage so as to appear as a “married minister” and more acceptable to Protestant sensibilities. He married a widow named Idlette who was 9 years older than him.
