What a privilege & joy to see 458 people professing faith in Jesus today @biltmore church thru baptism. Grateful for a God who saves & a church who shares🙌. #828isgreat
This is very inconsistent Willy. How can you say in one sentence “don’t attack the motives of good , godly people” right after saying “wolves come dressed not as sheep but as shepherds.. should be held to account.”?? Also, what specific fact based ex do you have on your allegation of “weaponizing”? Also, you called it a “snipe hunt”-which is make believe-IOW a hoax. Be consistent at least.
While I can’t to respond to every comment, I did want to respond to this in hopes of correcting your misperceptions of my opinions and knowing that as a pastor you would not want to bear false witness. I have never said that sexual abuse, or concerns about abuse, were a hoax. In fact, I have said the very opposite. I was an enthusiastic and early supporter of abuse reform movements in the SBC. I did begin to speak out about ways in which I believe that movement was weaponized and politicized. I believe there were some unwise decisions made that were counterproductive to the goals we all should share. I grieved at ways we became divided over something that should unite us all, stopping predators and protecting the vulnerable. Southern Baptists have taken extraordinary steps to do just that, and the overwhelming number of our churches are doing far more in that regard that had been done in previous generations. Yet, as long as sinful human beings walk the earth and until our King comes and vanquishes all such evils, there will be wolves who need stopping and people who need protecting. When those wolves come dressed not just as sheep, but shepherds, it is particularly egregious. I’m sure you join me in wanting none who are guilty of such vile conduct to be protected and all to be exposed and held to account.
I call upon all our churches to practice ongoing training, install proper protocols, and when faced with an accusation of abuse in their ministries, to take those seriously, to report to law enforcement immediately, and cooperate with all investigations fully.
I pray the day is soon hastening when we can stop this incessant attacking of one another and questioning the motives of good and godly people so we can unite to make our churches safer than ever before. The tragic reality of sexual abuse was, is, and remains, a serious threat. We need churches to be prepared and equipped to fight it, and we would be so much more effective if we fought it together instead of fighting each other.
Willy, how can you say in one sentence “don’t attack the motives of good and godly people “ right after saying “wolves come dressed not as sheep, but shepherds …be held to account “ ? Also, zero specific fact based examples of “weaponizing”. You also said it was “snipe hunt”. Snipes are make believe-which means hoax. At least be consistent.
@griffingulledge True, not sure if bigger than multiple drunk driving (see SEC Georgia). And, fact is Sorsby never played a snap for TT. If anyone should get smacked around, 👀 on Cincinnati imo. 🤷🏼♂️
Thx. 😊 Not looking to give you homework, just thoroughness. I’m sure there are a small number of female pastors preaching, but not a top “crisis” in SBC imo. I think Mohler 2 is > than Law due to function description. Any response to ? re data showing women pastor “crisis” > than SA “crisis”?
@megbasham Thx Megan, I’ve shared articles on both the Law amendment 2 years ago & Dr Mohler’s on @BaptistReview a few days ago. I’ll watch the “documentary”. Are there hard facts abt the # of female SBC preachers, or just anecdotal examples? I’ve seen no actual data that says “crisis”.
@jrwhitehead@jm_larue That is what this revised amendment seems to plainly say. As I said in my article, it’s not exactly the way I’d word it , but better than original & better than Law imo enough for me to support. As I also said, I think BFM is sufficient & better.
Awesome to see one of @biltmore church plants, Legacy Hills, already seeing people saved, baptized, worshipping, in the Word—& it doesn’t even launch till Fall! #travelersrest#acts2
@jrwhitehead@jm_larue John Michael’s understanding of my brief article is correct. Also, the revised amendment plainly reads that way. My use of examples like Betty Criswell were for historical perspective as I doubt anyone would call WA Criswell an “egalitarian”.
