A Lesson in Humility
Rt. Hon. Speaker Thomas Tayebwa @Thomas_Tayebwa
• Lives in a modest suburb of Munyonyo.
• Every Sunday, he drives himself to church with his dear wife and son.
• At church, he sits on any available seat, putting his title, position and honours aside.
• And remember, this is the 5th person in Uganda’s leadership hierarchy.
My friends, when God honours you with money—because I know he has it;
when God honours you with power—because I know he has it;
REMAIN YOURSELF.
— Mr. Emmanuel Katongole
If we had even 100 Government officials with the capacity, resources and commitment to reach such poor families and elderly Ugandans at the grassroots like this 😭😭, Uganda would smile.
Mazima, if you have travelled across Uganda, you know the reality: many innocent Ugandans are struggling quietly. Some families need very little to regain hope~food, medical support, school fees, a small livelihood opportunity, or simply someone to listen and connect them to the right Government programme.
My humble plea to the Government and H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni @KagutaMuseveni is this:
Please allocate enough resources to officials who are genuinely willing and able to go down to the grassroots, identify the most vulnerable families and elderly people, and connect them to Government support.
Government programmes should not only exist in offices. They must reach the people they were created to serve.
If we can strengthen that last-mile connection between Government and the ordinary Ugandan, many lives can change, many families can regain hope, and Uganda can smile. 🇺🇬❤️ @mkainerugaba@Nyinancweende@JustineNameere@BalaamBarugahar@StateHouseUg

We kicked off Day 1 of our Training of Trainers (ToT) Capacity Building Workshop.
Today, Sound of Silence Africa Initiative (SOSAI), a Deaf-led youth organization, launched Day 1 of the Training of Trainers for selected Sign Language Instructors from Jinja and Mbale Districts.
These instructors will be deployed to train medical workers in sign language communication skills and Deaf culture in their districts under our new project: Facilitating Accessible Communication Easily through Sign Language - FACES Project.
The FACES Project is a 6-month initiative funded by the @SwedenEmbassy in Uganda under the @SIHI_UG through @MakSPH
Today’s session focused on participant expectations, program modalities, roles and responsibilities, and the roadmap for the next 6 months.
We are building a health system where no Deaf person is left behind because of a communication barrier. Inclusive health care starts with accessible communication!
Stay tuned for more updates from the field.

Mummy @HelenSeku, I have always seen you going into schools and training millions of students. Hasn’t that strategy been working? ❤️
Aren’t we now going to spend billions and billions of taxpayers’ money transporting and facilitating them to Kyankwanzi? 😭
What is so special about taking these young people to Kyankwanzi that cannot be achieved by reaching them in their schools, where they already are?
Couldn’t we explore more practical strategies that deliver the same impact while saving taxpayers’ money?
Every shilling we spend is someone’s tax, someone’s sacrifice, someone’s livelihood. Let’s always ask ourselves: Can we achieve the same results at a lower cost?
Uganda needs impactful programmes~ but also smart, efficient and responsible use of public resources. 🇺🇬❤️.@mkainerugaba@Nyinancweende@SharpMugabe@GCIC_SocialDevt

This afternoon, I received a WhatsApp call from an enterprising young man who told me he had sacrificed almost everything- his time, data, resources and even meals ~out of love and commitment to PLU and his admiration for Gen. Muhoozi.
For 27 minutes, he spoke through deep sorrow, crying and lamenting about sleepless nights and going without food while saving data to amplify @GovUganda achievements and promote Gen. Muhoozi @mkainerugaba .
He asked me for advice and support.
I listened carefully, appreciated his passion and thanked him for the effort he is putting into supporting and amplifying the Government’s work.
But I also gave him advice from experience:
Political support is not employment.
Love your leaders. Support your party. Promote good Government programmes. But never make political activism your only survival plan unless it is actually paying you.
As young people, we must first build sustainable livelihoods ~ get skills, find work, start businesses, create value and earn from our efforts. We should support our leaders from a position of strength, not desperation.
Dear fellow youth, copy a leaf. Support and cheer wisely. Build your own future while supporting the leaders and causes you believe in.
Otherwise, one day you may find yourself blaming the very leaders you supported simply because you expected political loyalty to feed you.
Your passion is valuable. But your survival must also have a plan.@HonTwallafadil
