The man is going to retire and there will be a significant drop in attention, interest, engagement and support. A once in a lifetime athlete. Sometimes you gotta appreciate something while you still have it. There just won’t be another person on this team that the people and the media can engagement farm anymore. Furthermore, when THAT rivalry ends, football will take an enormous knock. Hate him or love him (Even though most of you just choose to hate for the sake of it) you have to acknowledge that Cristiano Ronaldo gave us real moments, moments we just couldn’t do without. A man you can only trash online and boo in the stadium, but would not have the same energy if he sat next to you in a plane. That’s where you really see how you feel about someone. The BBC commentators in this Portugal-Croatia game have spent most of the match trashing @Cristiano and saying he should come off. Then he has a brilliant goal narrowly disallowed, and scores a superb penalty. And they’re STILL saying he should do more. Pathetic.
