The government’s emergency financial measures today must focus on a "people's bailout” including measures like those below.
This time it should be the people that are bailed-out.
We need unequivocal statement from Chancellor today that people’s incomes will be protected businesses will be fully supported to prevent any going out of business as result of the virus, and it has to be on a scale sufficient to meet this crisis. No small measures. Get it right.
Government's plans are dangerous, irresponsible and completely out of sync with responses from other countries.
Boris needs to urgently stop trying to push the failing herd immunity strategy and start making decisions that will actually help people.

“Herd immunity” is code for social cleansing.
Our elderly and vulnerable fodder. This is ruthless.
As a minimum we need:-
1- access to private hospitals;
2- schools closed;
3- benefits for all diagnosed;
4- help for businesses. Now.

Absolutle disgrace that we are being told Government will pay
£2.4million per day to private hospitals to use their beds
This is a public emergency not a business transaction.
Labour & GMB are right to call for the requisition of all beds - cost free

Outrageous -who can afford 8 weeks without pay?
Workers should not pay the price for measures taken in response to the Coronavirus. This is not the way to deal with this crisis.
Emergency Coronavirus legislation is coming this week.
It must prepare for a social crisis as well as a public health crisis incl:
◾Proper sick pay for all
◾Mortgage & rent holidays - with no evictions
◾Suspend utility bills for all infected
◾Food support for the vulnerable
This article raises so many key questions:
◾Why has the UK departed from WHO policy?
◾Why has the Gov't abandoned population testing & contact tracing?
◾Why is self-isolation not being used more?
◾What's the policy to promote social distancing?

Many infected by #coronavirus will only get statutory sick pay. That's not enough to get by on.
People will need much more support. As part of a "people's aid" package, the Gov't should announce a moritorium on utility bills so those infected can fully access these essentials.
The billionaire who sued the NHS and creamed off hundreds of millions of pounds in dividends from train franchises is now demanding more public money?

It's totally wrong that the Government will hand over £73m every month for these beds.
Private health companies have already profited enough from NHS-funded work.
These beds should be requisitioned. The public good needs to come before private profit.

We need emergency support for people affected by coronavirus.
Including
*rent deferrals & mortgage holidays
*full sick pay
*an end to benefit sanctions
And we need to see the scientific evidence for the government taking such a different path to others. https://t.co/aFgZNNvf6o
What scientific advice saw over 600 Britons flown back from China and sent home without quarantine. Instead recommending they isolate and phone for medical assistance.
Lunacy.
This Government cannot be trusted with this crisis.

I'll launch a Global Justice Awareness Scheme as part of my plan to expand Labour's political education.
Each year, Labour Conference will highlight an international injustice issue on which 100 local Labour parties would then twin with affected towns and cities abroad. 🌎 ✊🌹
