"How the name of this our dwelling-place came about, nobody knows. Not less than 12 dozen ways have been found to spell it; a score of different derivations "discovered" for it; and guesses innumerable given as to its origin, but we still wait for the information required."

Britain’s canal network is absolutely wonderful. This from @jonpaulbostock heading back to Wolverhampton from Stafford on the towpath of Staffordshire & Worcestershire canal.
The bank of England has asked the public to give their views on a selection of wildlife, native to the UK, that will appear on the next series of £5, £10, £20 and £50 banknotes.
The list has been grouped into three categories, which cover a variety of species and environments. Each banknote will feature a different animal, making them easily recognisable to the public.
Which 4 would you choose?
My choice would be Red Fox, Barn Owl, Common Kingfisher and Grey Seal.
Just a reminder that tomorrow our Artisan Market, rescheduled from 21st May, is taking place in Central Square between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm.

👏 It was great to see 1,000s of people enjoying the Sarehole Festival this weekend, which celebrates Tolkein's relationship with the area.
✅ We were pleased to give the Tolkien Society a grant to support it to grow over the next 2-3 years and become a part of our vibrant cultural offer.
💚 We look forward to more Middle Earth adventures next year!
We’re sorry to hear of the imminent closure of the House of Fraser. Here’s a trip back to the glory days of the Rackhams Food Hall in a brochure from 1966. Ref – L 62.31 @LibraryofBham@houseoffraser
A blue moon is the second full moon in a calendar month.
The term blue moon originated from the 16th-century expression “the Moon is blue,” meaning something impossible. 🧵⬇️
The Hawkstone Farmers choir on BGT were stupendous.
These are the people that feed us
And Starmer does nothing but punish them
Our Farmers and Fishermen ARE the bedrock of Britain
They deserve our unwavering support

To celebrate @thealexbham's birthday this month, here's a short note from my records about theatres: (another entry, Theatrical Jottings, spans a couple pages!) #Birmingham#History#theatre
On Weds 27 May, @thealexbham reaches a milestone birthday, turning 125 years old. The theatre was built in 1901 by William Coutts who originally named it The Lyceum, before it was renamed as The Alexandra in 1902 when bought by Lester Collingwood.
