@TheJollyBrawler I get your principle. But pastoral ministry is a different animal than most vocations. The factory worker gets to rest on the Lord’s day, fed by (hopeful) a faithful shepherd, in fellowship w/the saints, w/no vocational responsibility. A good pastor seldom gets that refreshment.

The civil magistrate is God's earthly avenger for the punishment of evil and the defense of the good. It has been given the sword precisely to accomplish the task of meting out justice/vengeance on behalf of God. If it fails to do so, vigilantism and licentiousness results.

@StefanMolyneux The unrepentant in the midst of the fellowship of believers is a kind of cancer, as their sin will not remain isolated to them. Forgiveness, the prerogative of the aggrieved party, does not equate to reconciliation/restoration without repentance/restitution from the perpetrator.
