A very great pleasure to have @BryanBurrough back on the pod to discuss his new book, THE GUNFIGHTERS: HOW TEXAS MADE THE WEST WILD, including the psychopathy of some he calls "the big 5." John Wesley Hardin as stone cold killer, anyone? https://t.co/EJSnZFEEx4
For Sunday's edition of REAL TEXANS, I visit with @BryanBurrough about his great new book, “Gunfighters: How Texans Made The West Wild.” Our discussion covers his career in financial journalism and the importance of looking at history with clarity.
.@chicagotribune recommends your summer reading, including PAN by Michael Clune, Murderland by @carolinefraser, Mark Twain by Ron Chernow, and The Gunfighters by @BryanBurrough! https://t.co/MnjG1gmcHz
Whatever else you are reading, put @BryanBurrough's “The Gunfighters” at the top of your list to read next. Whether you are drawn to the Old West, to gunfighters, or just well-written non-fiction, “The Gunfighters” deserves your time… and will then grab hold of it.
The sub-title, “How Texas Made the West Wild,” seems like a flimsy assertion at first glance… But then the dots those post-Civil War gunfighters (through the end of the 19th Century) had to the Lone Star State start connecting.
Burrough’s writing style is engaging, filled with humorous asides that don’t get in the way of his exhaustively researched topic. “The Gunfighters: How Texas Made the West Wild” should be immediately on your summer reading list.
