Are you stacking your steps?

This is a normal thing some kickers struggle with. The intentions are good because you’re trying to create more power, but in return it actually creates more inconsistencies.

Your jab step needs to go to the plant, and your drive step needs to go to the ball. If your jab step gets too far off the line, you have to re-correct with your drive step. Some elite athletes are able to do this, but it’s much harder for younger athletes to get everything back in line.

Focus on staying on your train tracks. The more consistent your path to the ball is, the more consistent your ball contact will be. Fight for good ball contact, increase your make percentages, and trust your process.

People forget sometimes that really good kicks don’t always go through the uprights. The contact can be great, the height can be great, and the rotation can be perfect, but the line might just be off. Let’s make sure we’re not changing things just because we didn’t have the attention to detail to make sure our line was correct.
