Giants at Rams
I think everyone might be overreacting to Week 1 here...
the Giants beat Dallas 28-20.
Jaxson Dart looked great.
they put up 394 yards and converted an insane 9 of 10 third downs.
meanwhile the Rams got embarrassed 27-7.
and look what happened to the line...
LA opened around -8.5.
now we're getting -6.5.
that's a HUGE reaction to one week of football.
and IMO we're getting the important side of 7 because of it.
do I think the Giants are suddenly going 90% on third down again tonight?
no.
LA has also had 10 days to sit on that ugly loss and prepare for this game at home.
Aaron Donald is back tonight too... although I'm not making too much of that because he's expected to be limited.
the Rams have legitimate injury concerns. Puka may not play. Whittington may not play. Garrett is on IR.
so yeah... there's risk here.
but that's also why we're getting this number.
maybe Week 1 really told us the Giants are this good and the Rams are this bad.
I'm betting it didn't.
give me the embarrassed team at home with extra rest... and give me the 6.5 before it becomes 7.

Colts at Chiefs
this feels like one of those games where the obvious answer might be a little TOO obvious...
KC just beat Denver 31-10.
Indy just gave up 41.
Mahomes. Arrowhead. Sunday night.
and we're only laying 6.5?
that's exactly what bothers me.
because everybody watched the same games we did.
KC ran for 220 yards last week... which is great if you want them to win.
but if they lean on the run again tonight, that also shortens this game.
and now KC is missing starting LT Josh Simmons + Chamarri Conner.
Indy meanwhile comes in relatively healthy.
idk... I think KC probably wins this game.
but I can absolutely see one of those 27-23 games where Mahomes gets the win and everybody holding Chiefs -6.5 is pissed
we don't need Indy to win.
just hang around.

5 OF OUR LAST 6 ✅
we're rolling... but I'm not forcing a huge card just because we're hot.
2 spots I like today.
Packers at Jets
this one keeps pulling me back to the Jets...
they won 23-10 last week and Breece Hall went for 102 yards.
Green Bay meanwhile blew a 22-10 lead and lost 39-22.
both teams are missing pieces today... so I'm not going to pretend the injury situation is completely one-sided.
but Green Bay is missing Javon Hargrave and Warren Brinson up front.
and if I'm the Jets... that's exactly where I'm attacking them.
Breece Hall. over and over.
the other thing is the number.
Green Bay was laying more earlier in the week and now we're getting +3.5 at home.
maybe the market already took some of the value out of this...
but that hook matters.
I don't need the Jets to win.
I need them to keep this within a FG.
at +3.5... I'm in.
Pick: Jets +3.5
Jaguars at Broncos
this one comes with a condition...
I ONLY want Jacksonville if we can get +3.
because this is exactly the kind of game where Week 1 can fool everybody.
Jacksonville looked incredible.
Denver looked awful.
Trevor Lawrence threw 4 TDs and Denver got smoked 31-10.
so naturally everybody wants Jacksonville.
and yet Denver is still favored.
that bothers me.
maybe the books know everyone is going to look at last week and say Jacksonville is obviously the better team.
so I'm not chasing them at +2.5.
but if somebody is giving me the full FG with the healthier team that looked substantially better last week...
I'll take it.
small play.
Pick: Jaguars +3 ONLY
if it's +2.5... PASS.

we've hit 3 straight... let's have a Saturday.
3 plays today.
#7 LSU at #8 Ole Miss
this one has everything I look for...
Lane Kiffin left Ole Miss for LSU and now his first trip back to Oxford is with the team he left them for.
Ole Miss didn't fall apart without him either... they went all the way to the CFP semifinal.
now they're top 10... at home... getting 3 points.
and LSU QB Sam Leavitt has been banged up all week and has thrown 4 INTs vs only 2 passing TDs so far.
Ole Miss QB Trinidad Chambliss? 5 TDs. 1 INT.
idk... IMO there's way too much emotion on the Ole Miss side tonight to be giving me a FG at home.
Pick: Ole Miss +3
#16 SMU at #23 Louisville
I think the wrong team might be favored here...
SMU is 2-0. 2-0 ATS. averaging 566 yards a game and only giving up 17 points.
Kevin Jennings already has 767 yards + 8 passing TDs.
and these same teams played last year...
SMU won 38-6.
Louisville is good. especially at home.
but IMO if you're basically telling me just pick the winner... I'm taking SMU.
Pick: SMU +1.5
Florida State at #10 Alabama
this one feels gross... which is probably why I like it 😂
Alabama is laying almost 3 TDs.
but they were losing to Kentucky 17-13 at halftime last week before blowing them out in the 2nd half.
FSU just lost 27-24 to ranked SMU... and they forced 4 turnovers in that game.
oh and these teams played last year...
FSU beat Alabama 31-17.
I'm not saying FSU walks into Tuscaloosa and does it again.
I'm saying 19.5 points is A LOT for a team that already knows it can play with Alabama.
IMO we're paying for the Alabama logo here.
Pick: Florida State +19.5

#22 Houston at #13 Texas Tech
I really like Houston tonight...
Texas Tech beat these guys 35-11 last year and they've actually beaten Houston 7 straight times.
but IMO this Houston team is different.
they're 2-0... averaging 55 points and 562 yards a game... and somehow they're only allowing 10 rushing yards per game.
Texas Tech is 2-0 too but they're 0-2 ATS and had to score 14 unanswered in the 4th just to put Oregon State away last week.
and then there's the line...
Texas Tech opened as high as -12.5. It's down to -7.5 and Houston is reportedly taking 80% of the spread money at DK.
idk... revenge game... experienced Houston team... and the market is basically screaming that the gap between these teams isn't what people thought.
I don't need Houston to win this game.

Lions at Bills
I keep coming back to Buffalo here...
Detroit needed OT just to get by New Orleans on Sunday. Now 4 days later they're going into Buffalo missing 2 starting offensive linemen.
and Josh Allen just threw for 334 yards + 4 total TDs against a Houston defense that's a hell of a lot better than what he's seeing tonight.
then add in the first regular season game ever in the new Bills stadium... primetime... that place is going to be insane.
idk. IMO this is just a brutal spot for Detroit.
The line moving from around -3 to -4.5 worries me a little... clearly we're not the only ones seeing it.
but I still think Buffalo gets it done.

Brewers at Pirates
Brewers clinched the division last night... so obviously the first thought is fade them today.
idk... I think we're overthinking it.
Henderson has a 2.34 ERA. Jones is at 4.10. Milwaukee is just the better team and somehow we're only laying around -130.
Maybe there's a hangover... but IMO the price already accounts for some of that.

Clemson at LSU
Everybody sees Clemson getting double digits and immediately thinks that's too many points.
That's exactly why I like LSU.
Clemson is still Clemson. Dabo is still Dabo. They're a recognizable national brand walking into Baton Rouge getting around 10 points.
It feels like you're getting value.
But LSU has been waiting for this night all offseason.
New era. Lane Kiffin's first game. Tiger Stadium at night. Clemson on the other sideline.
There is zero chance LSU overlooks this game.
The pressure here isn't just to win. It's to announce that this version of LSU is different.
Sometimes laying 10 feels uncomfortable because it's supposed to.

Boise State at Oregon
This is one of those spots where I think the name on the other sideline is doing a lot of the work.
Boise State is good. Everyone knows Boise State is good. They're physical, experienced and they're not walking into Autzen scared.
But that might actually be the problem.
Oregon has spent the entire offseason hearing about how dangerous Boise State is. This isn't some cupcake they can sleepwalk through. Boise has their full attention.
Boise wants to prove it belongs with Oregon.
Oregon wants to remind everyone there's still a difference.
When the more talented team also has the motivation edge, I'll lay the number.
Pick: Oregon -24.5

Arkansas State vs Memphis
This one is all about how quickly the roles can change in college football.
Last week Memphis was the hunter.
They went on the road to UNLV with something to prove and won.
Now seven days later they're back home, everyone is telling them how good they looked, and suddenly they're expected to beat Arkansas State by almost two touchdowns.
They're not the hunter anymore.
They're the hunted.
And Arkansas State has had the luxury of sitting at home and watching Memphis put an entire game on film before they even play their opener.
That's an advantage I don't think should be ignored.
Arkansas State also isn't walking in there without experience on offense. They've got an experienced group around Texas transfer Trey Owens at quarterback.
And this isn't some random nonconference game where the two schools never see each other.
These teams have played 31 times.
Memphis has dominated the recent meetings. They've won five straight.
So Arkansas State isn't getting overlooked because nobody knows Memphis.
They're getting 11.5 points against a team that just had everyone watch them win on the road.
That's exactly when I start getting interested in the other side.
Memphis already had its emotional moment.
Arkansas State hasn't had theirs yet.
I don't need them to walk into Memphis and win the game.
I need them to make Memphis earn it for four quarters.
Give me the team that's been sitting at home watching, preparing and hearing all week about how good Memphis looked.
I'll take the 11.5.

Michigan State vs Toledo
I almost went the other way on this game.
Then I realized I was handicapping the Toledo name instead of the Toledo team that's actually taking the field tonight.
This isn't the Toledo team we've watched give Power 4 teams problems the last few years.
Jason Candle is gone.
Toledo has a new head coach and ONE returning starter.
One.
New coach Mike Jacobs brought a bunch of his Mercer guys with him. Mercer got shut out 47-0 in the FCS playoffs last year. And their star QB didn't follow him to Toledo.
Michigan State went 4-8 last year.
So I completely understand why someone sees Michigan State laying 10 points and immediately wants Toledo.
I did too.
But I think that's the trap.
We're giving Toledo credit for what Toledo used to be.
Different coach. Different roster. Different team.
Now that almost completely rebuilt team has to open its season under the lights in East Lansing against a Big Ten roster playing its first game for new head coach Pat Fitzgerald.
Michigan State doesn't have to be great tonight.
They just have to be considerably better than a Toledo team basically starting over.
The more I looked at this game, the more I liked the favorite.
Michigan State -10

Brewers lose. That puts us at 0-3 in baseball.
And that's it for me with baseball. I'm done with it. Baseball has never been very friendly to me... I'll admit that.
But Colorado...
That was exactly the kind of game I'm looking for.
They didn't just cover. They won outright.
1-0 in college football.
So we went 1-1 last night and still lost $140 because of the vig. That's gambling.
Baseball is over for me.
Football and basketball are my bread and butter... time to turn the page.

PICK: COLORADO +6.5
This is exactly the kind of psychological spot I’m looking for.
A year ago, Georgia Tech went into Boulder and broke Colorado’s heart—27-20 on a 45-yard TD with 1:07 left.
REVENGE.
Colorado then went 3-9. Now they’re picked 15th out of 16 teams in the Big 12, and the “Coach Prime experiment is over” talk has already started.
DISRESPECT.
And where does Deion open the season?
Atlanta.
Prime returns to the city where he played for the Falcons and Braves. Colorado has 17 players from Georgia coming home with him.
National TV. Sold-out stadium. Nearly a touchdown underdog.
MOTIVATION.
Now look across the field.
Georgia Tech went 9-4 last year. Expectations are high.
But ACC Player of the Year Haynes King is gone.
His replacement, Alberto Mendoza, makes his FIRST career college start tonight—replacing the ACC Player of the Year while carrying another shadow: his brother Fernando just won the Heisman and went #1 overall in the NFL Draft.
Sold-out stadium. National TV. Expected to win.
PRESSURE.
Colorado has revenge.
Colorado has disrespect.
Colorado has something to prove.
Georgia Tech has expectations.
And here’s the best part:
We don’t need Colorado to win.
Give me the pissed-off team and nearly a touchdown.
COLORADO +6.5

There’s a huge difference between having money in the bank and watching your savings account slowly shrink.
You’re not broke.
You’re not desperate.
But you start thinking about the money.
That’s Chicago right now.
The Cubs still have a 4.5-game Wild Card cushion. They’re fine. But they’ve lost 6 of 8, the division has turned into a 9-game deficit, and there are still 22 games left.
And the road to October isn’t a cakewalk.
They still have Milwaukee again, Atlanta, Miami twice, and finish the season on the road in Boston.
Chicago knows if they lose tonight, that 4.5-game cushion could quickly become 3.5.
Then they’re getting on a plane to Miami to face a team just 2.5 games out of the playoffs and fighting for its season.
Suddenly that cushion doesn’t feel quite as comfortable.
Milwaukee doesn’t have that weight.
They’re 9 games up. They’re playing with money in the bank.
When you have a cushion, you’re patient. You play loose. You don’t feel like every moment has to be the moment.
When that cushion starts disappearing, you press. Decisions feel bigger. Mistakes feel heavier.
That’s the psychological edge I’m betting tonight.
The number says even. The humans don’t.

Thesis
Yesterday wasn't just a loss for San Francisco. It was the kind of loss that takes something out of you.
The Giants trailed 11-5, fought all the way back, scored five in the eighth to tie it — and then lost 13-12 in the bottom of the ninth on a throwing error.
And here's the part I really don't like for San Francisco: that was their third game in three days in three different locations.
Now they have to wake up and do it again.
Pittsburgh is on the opposite side emotionally. They've won three straight, survived yesterday's collapse, and still walked off the field with the win.
That's the psychological mismatch we're looking for: one clubhouse spent everything it had trying to complete a comeback and got nothing for it. The other nearly gave the game away and still left feeling like it couldn't lose.
We're not betting that emotion alone wins baseball games. We're betting that when two teams come back less than 24 hours later, yesterday's emotional and physical toll matters.
Pirates ML -145.
Record: 0-2

Pirates lose 5-4. Not exactly the start we drew up 😂
I grew up watching Andy Reid’s Eagles start 0-2 every year and somehow end up 12-4 and in the NFC Championship game. I’m used to these kind of starts.
It’s a marathon. We’re fine. Back to the drawing board.
Record: 0-1
Phillies 7, Diamondbacks 1.
Well... that was a terrible read.
We expected Arizona's frustration from Monday to turn into urgency. Instead, Philadelphia scored twice in the first and Arizona's offense stayed ice cold.
No excuses. The psychological setup didn't translate to the field, and we start GameTheory 0-1.
Next pick coming shortly.
