Students and staff at Delta Woods Middle School celebrated "Dolly Parton Day" also known as "9 to 5 Day" by dressing in pink, sparkles, and fringe.  Students also brought new or gently used books to be donated to the Kansas City Rondald McDonald House.

During this "Give Like Dolly Day," DWMS honored Dolly's memory with a nod to her Imagination Library which has gifted over 332,411,200 books to children over the course of 31 years.

On Monday, October 12, the Blue Springs Wildcats and Blue Springs South Jaguars square off in a "Dig 4 the Cure" volleyball matchup to raise money for cancer research. This year, Dig 4 the Cure is coming together to support Shenquila Story.

Shenquila is a local Blue Springs Mom who has been battling cancer for the past 3 years. She has deep ties to the Blue Springs community, with several of her children attending Blue Springs Schools.

All proceeds raised through "Dig 4 the Cure" will go toward Shenquila's care, treatment, and other needs during her cancer journey.

C Team plays at 4:00 pm, JV plays at 5:30 pm, and Varsity follows JV.

Students at James Walker Elementary participated in #PinwheelsForPeace last week, an annual art project to celebrate International Peace Day on September 21.

Students created and decorated large paper pinwheels with their own unique designs.

Great work by the JWE students and staff for working together on this creative project!

Congratulations to Blue Springs South High School senior Wesley M. on being named a 2026 National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist.

Wesley is an All-State member of the Jaguars Cross Country team. He also participates in track, orchestra, and Scholar Bowl.

National Merit Semifinalists are high school seniors representing the top 1% of entrants in each state. They qualify based on their exceptional scores on the 2025 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). The semifinalists are now competing for roughly 6,700 National Merit Scholarships worth nearly $24 million, which will be awarded in the spring.

Congratulations to Blue Springs High School alum Brandon Lloyd on being inducted into the University of Illinois Athletics Hall of Fame.

Lloyd graduated from BSHS in 1999 and starred in football and track. He is the 1997 and 1999 Missouri High School High Jump Champion, setting a school and state record with an incredible jump of 7 feet, 2 inches. Lloyd held the state high jump record until 2010.

During his time at the University of Illinois, Lloyd was the leading wide receiver. His team won a Big 10 title and played in the Nokia Sugar Bowl. Lloyd finished his career in Illinois with the second-most receiving years of 2,835 and 21 touchdown receptions.

Lloyd was drafted in the 4th round of the 2003 NFL Draft and played 11 seasons in the NFL. He led the NFL in receiving yards during the 2010 season with the Denver Broncos and earned Pro Bowl honors.

Brandon Lloyd continues to generously give back to Blue Springs High School and we congratulate him on this outstanding honor! 🎉🏈

A pair of BSSD students were part of the cast of “Newsies” last week at Starlight Theatre Kansas City. Wildcat Jared R. and Jaguar Charlea E. were cast among 32 high school students from the KC Metro.

As part of a dance ensemble, students auditioned in February and learned about the show in one week. They worked alongside professional actors and actresses from New York City.

A group of 47 BSSD students went to cheer for them on opening night.

Congratulations Jared and Charlea on this outstanding accomplishment! 🎉

Meet the new Principal at James Lewis Elementary, Mrs. Kelsey Becker.

Mrs. Becker is in her 15th year in education and 10th year at BSSD. She was previously the assistant principal at Cordill-Mason Elementary and James Walker Elementary; she also taught at Paul Kinder Middle School and Brittany Hill Middle School.

"I am excited to become part of a learning community where tradition, pride, and high educational standards have shaped generations of students. Joining a community passionate about creating pathways for student achievement and impacting the future of our society is a dream come true."

The BSSD community collected 39,054 items for Blue Springs Community Services League. The week includes some friendly competition at the elementary, middle, and high school levels to see who can collect the most items. The winners are Voy Spears Jr. Elementary, Delta Woods Middle School, and Blue Springs South High School.

Special thanks to four Scooter’s Coffee locations, that collected $1,867 because of the extra shot of espresso promotion.

During Community Unity Week, BSSD celebrated its community partners at the annual Partners for Student Success Breakfast.

Partner highlights included Central Jackson County Fire Protection District's fire education program for BSSD first and fourth grade students and Hollis + Miller Architects and their collaboration with students on the design and branding of the Career Innovation Center.

In honor of Patriot Day, the Blue Springs South High School Air Force Junior ROTC presented the colors, and senior members of the Jaguars Chamber Choir sang the National Anthem. The program concluded with the singing of "God Bless the U.S.A." by BSSHS student Darryl W.

Special thanks to all community partners who provide relevant and engaging learning experiences for students.

Students at William Yates Elementary got in the Community Unity Week spirit by donating lots of items for Community Services League during their "Hat Day" spirit day.

Hats of all sizes and colors were on display as the student leaders counted and recorded donation totals before the start of the school day.

Tomorrow is the last day for Community Unity Week collections. Let's do all we can to support those in need in our community.

Meet the new Principal at James Walker Elementary, Mrs. Miranda White.

Mrs. White is in her 10th year in education and eighth year at BSSD. For the last two years she served as assistant principal at JWE, and prior to that she was a special services teacher at Liggett Trail Education Center, Sunny Pointe Elementary, and Voy Spears Jr. Elementary.

Mrs. White said, “The very best part of my job is helping students believe in themselves, achieve their goals, and find success in their own unique way.”

It's Community Unity Week!

Community Unity Week is an annual event that coincides with the Blue Springs High School vs Blue Springs South High School football matchup. During the week, students, staff, and community members are encouraged to donate canned goods, non-perishable items, hygiene items, and money for Blue Springs Community Service League. The week also includes some friendly competition, and the schools who collect the most items are crowned at halftime of the football game.

Every year, Community Unity Week is the largest collection drive held for Blue Springs Community Services League , and it stocks the shelves for many months to come.

Please consider contributing to this annual tradition.

BSSD’s annual Community Unity Week runs Sept. 6 through 10, and local Scooter’s Coffee locations are getting into the spirit by donating $1 for every extra shot of espresso during the week.

All four locations will be donating, with two locations per BSSD high school. The school with the most donations will be announced at halftime of the Blue Springs South Jaguars and Blue Springs Wildcats football game 7 p.m., September 11 at Peve Stadium.

Meet the new Principal at Thomas Ultican Elementary, Mrs. Casey Browsberger.

Mrs. Brownsberger served as the principal at James Walker Elementary for the past seven years. Under Brownsberger's leadership, JWE was named a 2024 National ESEA Distinguished School and a 2025 Missouri Gold Star School. She also served as assistant principal at Lucy Franklin, James Lewis, and Franklin Smith Elementary Schools.

Mrs. Brownsberger said, "I am thrilled to join the Thomas Ultican family and become part of a community where everyone belongs, believes, and becomes.”

BSSD Friday night football now has an even larger radio presence for the 2026 season. Vision Sports and Cumulus Broadcasting KC have announced that 107.3 FM now joins 102.5 Jack-FM as the radio home of the Vision Sports Blue Springs Wildcats and Blue Springs South Jaguars High School Football Broadcasts.

Each week, a Wildcats or Jaguars game will be carried live on air with 107.3 FM and 102.5 Jack-FM simulcasting their signals. 102.5 Jack FM covers most of the KC Metro, and 107.3 FM’s 100,000-watt signal reaches as far east as Boonville, South to Clinton and Nevada, and North to St Joseph, greatly expanding Cats and Jags listening opportunities.

Meet the new Director for Early Childhood and Special Services at Liggett Trail Education Center, Dr. Brett Anwander.

Dr. Anwander is beginning his fourth year at LTEC and his 19th year in BSSD. Before taking this role, he taught science at Blue Springs High School, served as an assistant principal at the middle and high school level, and was the Assistant Principal of Programs at LTEC.

Dr. Anwander said, "These experiences have shaped my commitment to building strong relationships, supporting families, and ensuring children receive the high-quality early learning opportunities they deserve."
