Preller played a part in giving us some fun playoff runs, maybe even one more this year! But this last trade deadline sealed his fate. I think his time here
is over after this season.
Leo for a reliever? Bergert and Kolek for a backup catcher? That's a wrap.
Since AJ Preller took over as Padres GM, during trade deadline week thru 2024, Preller has traded a total of 56 players to acquire 37 players.
The combined bWAR of those 56 players: 21.4 (0.38 WAR/player)
The combined bWAR of those 37 players: 13.8 (0.37 WAR/player)
@obnoxiouskimfan @PadresDataDaily Yea, the farm should be the lowest ranking goal of the team anyway.
The goal is to win a WS which they haven’t done and the window seems to be closed based on ownership actions.
@obnoxiouskimfan @PadresDataDaily Probably net neutral in the end.
After those trades:
-No NL west title
-No WS appearance
-No WS ring
Looking ahead, the team looks to be a top 10 payroll in 2025 with holes on the major league roster, contracts aging poorly, and a bad farm after the top 2 prospects.
