@LeverettFarming@sprinkles785 I reckon staff the requirement for 3in2 milking means might as well stay TAD or reduce those staff numbers and go OAD, but heaps of factors to consider
@Graiseconsult1 Sounds good, did you contemplate Wagyu?
We are 600 cows dryland 2nd season doing OAD, 2 man operation so a few simerlarities compared to rest of Canterbury!
@PhilFarmVet @RhianepFW Agree with this.
Our targets at calving where I am in NZ are 5.0 for mature cows and 5.5 for heifers and r3โs. Calving at 6 NZ scale is not desirable, increases risk of ketosis etc. Where as UK scale I think has target of 2.5-3 at calving. So NZ 5 is a bit more than UK 2.5 imo.
Mission Mt Somers, awesome race on a scorcher of a day, very happy to get a top 10 finish in the half marathon! ๐โฐ๏ธ

DAIRY UNIT MANAGER POSITION AVAILABLE with stock ownership on spring calving herd. Due to our current unit manager progressing to his own Contract farming agreement the position at Bramleys Farm has become available. Please see attached info sheet. RTโs appreciated #teamdairy
Grazing 19 may be shaping up nicely for spring herds but watch out for ketosis. Kind winter + high protein grass = big ketosis risk in freshly calved cows. Lots of star gazing and drunk looking cows about at the moment on many units!
Huge thanks to Arla farmer Dave in Warrington and the team at our Stourton dairy โ hereโs a little round up of the visits they facilitated from @coopwoodlands as they find out more about milk, a fantastic activity driven by the Co-opโs Academy #arlafarmers#farmtofork
Big risk of hypomagnesaemia or grass staggers this week with the wet weather and rapid grass growth if grazing. Worth baring in mind and supplementing magnesium early if needed.
