@girlgoodfriday @res15765 Ukraine decided to go for independence, along with Belarus and russia, which convinced the Muslim areas to announce their independence to, although they all joined into a confederation, they were all independent in a confederation, somewhat like the EU now.

@girlgoodfriday @res15765 When Gorbachev was in power, and when he briefly was overthrown by a few corrupt military leaders, yeltsin stepped in as the Russian leader, and prevented the coup. Gorbachev was trying to hold the union together but needed Ukraines support, along with Belarus as the slavic base.
