Sports are meant to be a sacrosanct sphere, where people can come together and just play the game. Yet the actions of Ireland’s national soccer team on two recent occasions — bowing their heads during the Israeli national anthem, wearing black armbands and refusing to even look Israeli players in the eye — go far beyond poor sportsmanship. They're flat-out dehumanizing.
And to see this behavior directed at athletes from the world’s only Jewish state, in a country where the Jewish community is already being targeted by antisemitism at a rate that far exceeds those of all seven J7 countries, is particularly disturbing.

@WokeSIayerJew What hypocrisy?
We sold dual use equipment to Israel as well.
Our governments shitty position is that it should all be collective action and so they won't make a move on their own.
Also yes, they are all sanctimonious.
@UselessSpy@aodanhill The position is that Gaelic cutlure began between Ulster and Argyll and split into Scottish and Irish.
There is no evidence of material replacement that you see in the event of colonisation.
There is consistency going back to pre-history in Argyll etc
No. 10 knowing back in 1973 that the UDR was hopelessly infiltrated by the UVF and UDA, and actively engaged in murder, remains one of the most existentially shocking facts to emerge from the conflict. IMHO.
@kevinjjones We have separatists up north (descendents of colonial settlers who want Ireland to remain partitioned) and they pretend to be split into two groups... unionists and loyalists.
Loyalists being the violent.
Our saying is that loyalists have the guns, unionists hold the receipts.
Scumbag leader of TPUK laughing about the UVF running a campaign against Catholic civilians.
He even says that it was a campaign against Catholic civilians as he laughs about it.
Turning point is disturbing... but it always has been.
"They can start cutting people's faces up. They can stab someone. They can shoot someone."
EXCLUSIVE: Our hidden cameras capture the leader of Turning Point UK organising a fake rally for a foreign government and helping arrange a murder-for-hire with loyalist paramilitaries.
They made split decisions to set up fake roadblocks to kill Catholics?
It was a split decision to massacre all those people on Bloody Sunday.
A split decision to aid loyalist terrorists groups with arms and intel.
As a former British officer who served in Afghanistan, I will not be voting for the Government’s Troubles Bill.
Those men and women who served during the Troubles made split-second decisions while operating under orders and the rules of engagement, in conditions most of us cannot imagine.
The legal principle governing the use of force has not changed. British soldiers in Northern Ireland back then were guided by the same principle that guided me and my colleagues in Afghanistan.
However, rules and standards have shifted since then, and soldiers shouldn’t be judged retrospectively by rules that did not exist when they served.
Nor should they be exposed to endless or vexatious re-litigation without new material evidence.
That is neither fair nor just and could impair critical decision-making on the battlefield.
Jeffrey Donaldson is to be interviewed by London police about an alleged rape of a woman, inside the Houses of Parliament, the BBC can reveal.

Our local government authority @fermanaghomagh has passed motion calling on British Prime Minister and his Secretary of State to outline circumstances where & when they will initiate Irish Unity referendum in accordance with provisions of Good Friday Agreement. Summing up here.
@finlaybrannon Yes, soldiers.
While literally every single pro British group (including their police, army and intelligence) all MOSTLY targeted and killed unarmed Catholic civilians and children.
BREAKING: A landmark government report is set to reveal the vast scale of antisemitism in English schools and colleges, Sky News can exclusively reveal.
The report, written by former schools inspector Sir David Bell, will on Wednesday set out 27 recommendations to create change.
