Before becoming FDNY firefighters, every probationary class makes one solemn journey.

On Friday, our latest class of probationary firefighters visited the 9/11 Memorial & Museum in Manhattan—a tradition that connects every generation of firefighters to the 343 members of our Department who made the Supreme Sacrifice on September 11, 2001.

This class carries special significance: Class 1 of 2026 is the final class of firefighters to make this visit and graduate from the Fire Academy before we mark the 25th anniversary of 9/11.

As they prepare to join the ranks of New York City's Bravest after graduation, they do so with a deeper understanding of the legacy they now carry and our enduring promise to Never Forget.

The South Korean National Fire Agency is in New York City for the FDNY's Search & Rescue Field Medicine Symposium. Their delegation includes medics, nurses and EMS administrators from every province. They’ve been visiting FDNY facilities annually since 2019 to observe our daily operations.
