A package goes from the supplier → the carrier → prep center → back to the carrier → fulfillment center → customer
One item goes to 5 different places before it gets to the final destination. Inventory leakage is the number one thing that is going to kill your business.
My first prep center lost me tons of money and I didn't know any better
They had:
• Constant missing orders
• Constant incorrect shipments
• Constant broken items
• Constant mislabeled items
A good prep center should have:
• Extreme organization
• Very good communication
• Regular shipments
• Low error rate
Those are just the bare minimum too. Don't settle for less, like I did for a long time.
It's very important to do your due diligence while shopping for prep centers, a good 3PL can make or break your business.
Get quotes from multiple prep centers, understand how their communication works and find out how they help with reconciliation, especially for OA.
