I interacted with the Black Check contract the night it was deployed, depositing the single check that I created (#4455) and ultimately retrieving the single check that @visualizevalue created (#5050) and Jalil had sent into the contract
I was pretty torn about the decision, both before and after. I was quite attached #4455 plus wasn’t sure if it was abusing the contract or using it in a way that wasn’t intended
I spoke to Jalil about it the next day and he was really cool about it and refused my offers to return it. Even so, I still felt weird about it, especially when Jalil explained why it was #5050 and what that number signified for him and Jack
Reading this (brilliant) white paper has made me feel much better about it, particularly that one of the design goals was to allow participants to exchange specific NFTs
The white paper also points out several arbitrage opportunities, one of which being “Composite History: Provenance may influence value” and I think it’s fair to say #5050’s origin story is pretty special
Thank you to Jalil for being so cool and all of his incredible work behind the scenes. Thanks also to @lukeweaver_eth for the thread on how to interact with the contract and virtually holding my hand on the night, wouldn’t have been able to do it without him. And shoutout to @yougogirl_eth, @Maximill15 and @0xHarsheth for the encouragement
