Lately i’ve spent a lot of hours listening to podcasts where the smartest people on earth gave their opinions about the near future waiting for us

TL;DR, two scenarios are waiting for us

1. AI becomes so intelligent to rule the world itself, a super intelligent AI would soon understand our presence as humans is not necessary. Optimized decisions based on the most efficient choice to make would wipe out humanity

2. We manage to regulate and control AI, few people get ultra rich (the ones in control), AI gets so smart to do any job, universal basic income becomes the standard, quality of life at all time high, no poverty anymore, everybody can now focus on their passions

Option 2 sounds good right?

But let me tell you something

My privileged position allows me to observe the world and to focus on deep learning

I can do it because i don’t neet anymore to worry anymore about how to survive

I escaped the rat race

Sounds extremely good right?

It’s not

My personal experience is that when a human being loses his life pourpose, he just get lost

We live in a world where your job defines who you are

People live, struggle and put their best efforts into their jobs

What happens when suddenly people lose their jobs and their life purpose?

They simply get lost

People just get depressed

And i can tell you this because i somehow find myself early in the situation

I’ve realized my childhood goals and now i feel lost

Surely i can get more, there is always something more to achieve

But this scenario doesn’t apply to most people: must people work hard just to survive, because they have no choice

I’ve been travelling a lot into south east Asia, and what I found out is most people live happily with the bare minimum

Most people don’t care about ambition, they just need the basics to survive and share their journey with the loved ones

My fear is that even in the most optimistic scenario most people will just enjoy becoming plants, fed by virtual reality and bear minimum food to survive

Scariest scenario is that accordingly to the experts this can happen between 2027 and 2030

That said, i think the average humans should deeply focus on doing whatever they can in order to make it to Elysium

For the ones unfamiliar with the term, i suggest to watch the homonymous movie

You should put every drop of sweat into accumulating as much as you can, because the gap between rich and poor is only going to increase exponentially
