Another classic piece of #Chinese state propaganda: #Turkish journalists are flown in for tightly staged “see for yourself” tours of #EastTurkistan, then trotted out with glowing and glorious quotes about how “happy” #Uyghurs are living in paradise under benevolent Chinese rule.

The Chinese handlers mold these Turkish visitors like clay — cheap junkets for compliant reporters who know the game. Turkish outlets get paid (or access), China gets its propaganda win, and Uyghurs get sold out again.

Everyone profits except the happy Uyghurs in paradise.

The news from Xinhua, a Chinese CCP mouthpiece, appears simple and straightforward: it reports on a performance by the Shanghai Ballet Troupe of an original ballet centered on Uyghur Muqam (木卡姆), a classical Uyghur musical and dance tradition recognized as a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage.

The story follows a young Uyghur musician named Guli (a common Han Chinese proper name for almost all Uyghur women used to anonymize them), who returns to her hometown, reconnects with her childhood memories, and rediscovers the contemporary vitality of Muqam.

It is framed as a key project under “Shanghai Culture Moistens Xinjiang” (上海文化润疆), part of broader “pairing assistance” and cultural exchange initiatives between eastern provinces and #EastTurkistan (aka Xinjiang).

However, the problem is much deeper than it first appears: the story uses a fusion language, repeatedly emphasizing “Haipai (Shanghai-style) ballet fusing with Muqam,” “co-creation,” “exploring symbiotic stage language,” and the core theme “Muqam is not dusty sheet music, but a beating heart.”

What is the problem here:

It uses colonial language to redefine local #Uyghur culture through top-down curation by external (Shanghai- and Han-dominated) professionals, who define, "refine," and execute the fusion for the stage, thereby setting the terms of representation.

This fusion comes from above: #Chinese artistic acumen is presented as the force to revitalize what is below, a dusty relic that has almost lost its vitality. More cynically, China seems to rescue what it is destroying: Muqam, a unique cultural heritage of Uyghurs, is being obliterated as part of the Uyghur genocide.

Thus, #Chinese "experts" seem to be rescuers, life-giving angels for something that the #CCP is killing now.

This news article covers a summer practical research and “home visit” activity by students and a professor from the National Security College (国家安全学院) of South-Central University for Nationalities (中南民族大学, a university specializing in ethnic minority affairs) to study “inter-embedded communities,” police stations, grid management, and Bingtuan (paramilitary settler corps) units.

This looks like ordinary academic study and field research, but it points to a broader issue: #China’s security apparatus integrates academia, security, paramilitary forces, and governance in East Turkistan to build all-encompassing surveillance networks.

This is not tourism—it is training the next generation of cadres in stability maintenance and Sinicization techniques. It shows how police stations, grid management systems, comprehensive governance centers (综治中心), and Bingtuan units are integrated into a whole-of-society network that strengthens control and, through a surveillance system, drives ideological, demographic, cultural, and political integration in #EastTurkistan (Xinjiang).

This reveals how Uyghurs are surveilled from top to bottom, from right to left, and from outside to inside, under total control.

We live in a world where genocides keep happening but are quickly normalized. The perpetrators are admired, even celebrated, while crimes fade from memory.

A regime, #China, that fears books is barbaric. Barbarism is not merely the absence of and opposite to civilization — it is the active and brutal imposition of a single, state-approved way of thinking on people as the only permissible truth, and the only right to exist.

By doing so it violatates human desire for knowledge as rational beings and reduces human beings to thoughtless animals by suppressing the very tools that sharpen reason, empathy, and dissent.

As I conveyed to Deputy FM @LGUMRUKCU following the @AtlanticCouncil event on the @NATO Summit & the Future of U.S.-Türkiye Defense Relations, @MFATurkiye must be a voice for East Turkistan and act against China’s colonial occupation of the Turkic ancestral homeland & its ongoing genocide against Turkic peoples.

At the very least, Türkiye must end its ongoing so-called “security” & intelligence cooperation with China against East Turkistan, which dates back to late 1996.

When the #Thai government deported innocent Uyghur refugees to #China in 2025, many did nothing to stop and even sighed with relief that China’s target was only #Uyghurs.

But now other human rights activists and Chinese dissidents in Thailand are being targeted similarly, facing deportation to China. It is not only the Thai government that is increasingly under China’s control; China is also expanding further to assert its power within its sphere of influence as part of its transitional oppression.

China will not stop there. Any government that betrays human rights will betray itself by losing its sovereignty to China one by one.

The CCP’s authoritarian system operates like a snake—opportunistic, expansionist, and inherently hostile to those it perceives as threats. Its nature drives it to identify and neutralise targets relentlessly. Whoever aids or sympathises with this snake will pay the price for its self-destructive delusion.

Turkiye calls Uyghurs the flesh of the Turkic nation. It's been selling that flesh to China since it traded us for missiles in 1996. The treachery never stopped; Ankara continues "security" and intelligence cooperation with Beijing against East Turkistan.

The consequences for East Turkistan have been fatal. Foremost among them is the ongoing genocide of Uyghurs and other Turkic peoples, now entering its 13th year. Equally fatal is the systematic transformation of the East Turkistan cause, through infiltration, co-optation, influence and intelligence operations, from a national struggle for the restoration of East Turkistan's independence into a controlled "Uyghur cause" appealing for "human rights and autonomy" under China.

That orchestrated neutering has served Beijing well. It has kept the question of East Turkistan off the international agenda and continues to buy China the time it needs to advance its colonization, genocide, and occupation of East Turkistan to an irreversible point.
