Registration is officially open for the 2026 Social Norms Conference!
The rules that shape our lives are not always written down. Yet, they influence who gets heard, who gets to lead, how decisions are made, and how communities respond to change.
This October, researchers, policymakers, practitioners, development partners, funders, young professionals, and other changemakers from across Anglophone West Africa will gather in Abuja around the theme:
Norms in Shifting Landscapes: Powering Progress for People and Place
Across two days, we’ll explore how social, economic, technological, and environmental changes are reshaping norms and what this means for development practice, policy, research and action.
Expect keynotes, panels, side sessions, interactive discussions, an art festival (post conference event) and opportunities to connect and exchange ideas with others working to understand and shift social norms.
📍 Date: October 29-30, 2026
📌 Venue: Abuja Continental Hotel, Abuja, Nigeria
Whether you generate evidence, design programs, shape policy, fund solutions, or work directly with communities, this conversation is for you.

What if preventing postpartum haemorrhage could also reduce the cost of care?
An evaluation conducted in Nigeria assessed the cost-effectiveness, budget impact, and health outcomes of introducing heat-stable carbetocin (HSC) for the prevention of postpartum haemorrhage (PPH), particularly in settings where the quality of oxytocin cannot always be assured.
Using data from public healthcare facilities across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, the study projected that introducing HSC could avert 111,652 PPH events and 1,165 maternal deaths among a cohort of 2.5 million deliveries. It was also associated with a projected 6% reduction in health-system costs and cumulative savings of ₦352.8 million over five years at a 17% market share.
We are grateful to our collaborators at the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) for the partnership and shared commitment to generating evidence that can inform stronger maternal health policies and interventions in Nigeria.
Read the study to explore the evidence and its implications for PPH prevention in Nigeria.

Today, on World Polio Day, we celebrate progress and reaffirm our commitment to a polio-free Africa.
Through our work in Polio Outbreak Response across Nigeria, the Lake Chad Basin, and Africa, SCIDaR continues to support governments and work hand-in-hand with communities, health workers, and partners across the continent to ensure every child receives life-saving polio vaccines.
From supporting vaccination campaigns in hard-to-reach communities to strengthening surveillance systems and building community trust through local mobilizers, we're making strides toward eliminating polio.
But our work isn't done. Until every child is protected, we remain committed to reaching zero-dose children and ensuring no community is left behind.
This World Polio Day, we honor the dedicated health workers, community leaders and volunteers, government officials, and partners who work tirelessly and often in challenging conditions, to protect our children's futures. Together, we're building a healthier, polio-free Africa.

“Protecting children is a shared responsibility.”
Did you know that Adamawa and several other states have already begun the Measles-Rubella vaccination campaign?
Led by the Federal Ministry of Health through the NPHCDA, this nationwide effort is ensuring that every child in Nigeria is protected from preventable diseases. But success depends on all of us as parents, caregivers, and community members, playing our part by taking children to the nearest vaccination post.
These vaccines are safe, effective, and fully funded by the Federal Government.
Together, let’s protect the children of today and secure a healthier future for all!

“Aliko Dangote, he’s not an individual, he’s an institution, and he’s a leading light in Nigeria’s economy. And how we treat this gentleman will determine how outsiders will judge us.”
- VP, Kashim Shettima today at 31st Nigerian Economic Summit
He added: “If he had invested $10 billion in Microsoft, in Amazon, or in Google, he probably might be worth $70 to $80 billion by now.
“But he opted to invest in his country, and we owe it to future generations to jealously protect, promote, preserve, and protect the interests of this great Nigeria.
“I wish to call for caution, retrospection, and a deeper sense of patriotism from both labour and the organised private sector in defining and improving the relationship between labour and industry in the interest of maintaining our steadily improving economic fortunes.
“It’s not about holding the whole nation to ransom because of a minor labour dispute.
“Nigeria is greater than PENGASSAN. Nigeria is greater than each and every one of us. I’m not coming to you as a partisan.”
Today, we join the people of Guinea-Bissau in celebrating a nation built on resilience, courage, and the pursuit of freedom. As we honor this journey, we also look ahead to shared progress in health and development.
At SCIDaR, we are proud to stand alongside the Government of Guinea-Bissau in strengthening healthcare systems through the Gavi Expanded Program on Immunization Leadership, Management and Coordination (LMC) project. By investing in leadership and management for immunization programs, we are working together to ensure that every child has access to life-saving vaccines and communities are equipped with resilient health systems.
As we celebrate this milestone, we reaffirm our commitment to progress, equity, and lasting impact for the people of Guinea-Bissau.
