2022. Gavin Newsom speaks at the Clinton Global Initiative about wildfires and climate change.

This is an amazing clip, especially when proper context is added.

Newsom mentions three recent fires that had destroyed entires towns. Grizzly Flats, Greenville, and Paradise (the Caldor, Dixie, and Camp fires).

One fire was started by a father and son shooting guns and it spread because of forest mismanagement and a terrible response, one was started by a tree falling on an old power line (involved poor maintenance by utility company PG&E), and the other was due to PG&E being criminally negligent and too cheap to inspect 100 year old metal hooks.

Newsom implies the fires started because of climate change and then brags about spending 54 BILLION and creating regulations to reduce carbon. Newsom then calls conservative Governors stupid and dumb.

Utility company PG&E has been breaking the law for years. People end up dying, the company gets convicted of crimes, PG&E donates to politicians that use taxpayer dollars to bail out the company, and the politicians blame climate change for the fires.

In the middle of the Indian Ocean. Southern hemisphere summer season. Feels good to be back out on the water and on the 175. Will be on the move tomorrow about 40mi moving to Farquhar. Fished half day today for a variety of inshore stuff, dog tooth and GTs.

First full day of fishing on leg 13. Ran out to a high spot 16 mi from Providence island anchorage, put the Marlin lures in for 15 min and just could not help ourselves and had to make a few drops as the meter and sonar was lit up. Caught GT, bluefin trevally, grouper, etc on every single drop. Fishing an area untouched pretty sick.

This is a 2 min sequence of a smaller grade GT on a lighter jigging rod. I grew up fishing this style in California with minimal short rod movements, keeps maximum consistent tension without the rod dip. It’s the same technique that we are duplicating in the chair using 130 class gear. Not saying this style is better or worse, just sharing as it’s not a universal style of angling.

Day 2 Tuesday starting now, fishing a new area 35mi from the Providence anchorage. Same impressive abundance of life here also, dog tooth tunas everywhere. They are biting the short corner Marlin lure in the pattern. Trying to catch Skipjacks, most are eaten by a doggy on the retrieve. Amazing ocean.
