A natural underground bumblebee nest site used in two successive years by B. terrestris. To my knowledge this hasn’t been recorded before for in an underground nester - probably because natural nest sites aren’t often re-examined in subsequent years @PaulWilliamsNHM.

Bumblebees transport pollen in ‘baskets’ on their hind legs and nectar in their honeystomach. They can carry their body weight in nectar and up to 90% of their body weight in pollen. What they carry affects how they fly.

Here (I think!) Ramalina siliquosa, a cheeky peep of Tephromela atra to the right, and the rich gorse yellow tones of a Xanthoria sp.

The tiny spider hunter, Miscophus concolor. This is a female ~5mm long. She hunts small wolf spiders and jumping spiders to provision a nest excavated in sandy ground.
