Luzerne County, PA officials warned that 12 of the county's 35 confirmed overdose deaths this year involved cocaine mixed with fentanyl, and all 12 occurred in the last three months.

The DA attributed it to both careless mixing in labs handling both drugs and deliberate adulteration, since fentanyl is cheap to produce.

Officials also flagged fentanyl appearing in local methamphetamine and a rise in powder cocaine use.
