We are a group of volunteers at the Ventura County Animal Services shelter in Camarillo, CA who are dedicated to finding loving homes for the shelter bunnies.

Today the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources announced 2 domestic rabbits tested positive for Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease Virus Type-2 (RHDV2). This is the first case of RHDV2 in Minnesota. 🐰

Even indoor-only rabbits are at risk of Rabbit Hemorrhagic Disease Virus Type-2 (RHDV2). In the 2020-21 N. American outbreak, officials report a death rate of about 90%. Biosecurity precautions should be taken by rabbit guardians, including vaccination.

There have been confirmed cases in AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, ID, MS, MN, NV, NM, OR, SD, TX, UT, WY, Canada & Mexico, in both wild & domestic rabbits.

For those living in areas with current spread of RHDV2, the most important things you can do to help keep your rabbits safe are keeping your rabbits inside (including no outdoor playtime), taking biosecurity measures at home, & vaccinating.

Our VCAS alum Orbit was adopted recently and it is safe to say he has wasted no time settling in to his forever home and being the king of his castle😍. He is a very loved and spoiled indoor bun and we could not have been more happy to receive this wonderful update from his mom❤️
